In hindsight, while I recently added this trope due to this character not always being a playable fighter in her later appearances, each game having an isolated narrative calls into question if the "previous" part of the Trope truly applies.

* PreviousPlayerCharacterCameo: She originates from ''Molly the Were-Zompire'', an InteractiveFiction game that was one of the development team's first releases.

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: In the Cthulhu Mythos, Nyarlathotep was a cruel FauxAffablyEvil {{Sadist}} who enjoyed adopting a human guise and subtly manipulating populations into madness. Here, he openly stands around in his monstrous form and just uses zombies to terrorize people while lacking any affableness (false or otherwise).
* AdaptationalWimp: In Cthulhu Mythos, Nyarlathotep was a powerful godlike being able to single-handedly drive entire cities to madness. Here? He only revives zombies and drains mana, has less health than an ape princess, and his only mind-attacking ability -- Creeping Terror -- is more annoying than threatening. He's no match for even a depowered Cthulhu.

* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Ignoring the fact that Cthulhu himself will get punched out a lot if you are not careful, at the end of the game, [[spoiler:Cthulhu manages to slay Azathoth himself, which would be an example even if Cthulhu would have his full power.]]

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: However, he is surprisingly nicer to his fellow groupies, and doesn't snark at them as much as to narrator. Best shown when he saves Umi from shoggoth, and then says it wasn't out of pragmatism, and gives a vague hint that he does appreciate her company.

* MoralityPet: Gradually became this to Cthulhu. Once she got attacked by shoggoth, he resorted with attacking it to the point when, in his own words, "there wasn't enough left to traumatize a toddler". Plus, she's actually capable of [[WhatTheHellHero calling him out]] and having him listen, as shown in one conversation with an NPC.

* ShipperOnDeck: Shown to be pretty supportive of Umi's crush on Cthulhu. After shoggoth is defeated, and Umi thanks Cthulhu, Sharpe notices Cthulhu gives a vague hint of him appreciating her company and is quick to point it out. Though Cthulhu is having none of it.
