A former member of the Igawa clan, and Asagi's teacher, Momochi Toyo is a fallen Taimanin and terrorist who has devoted himself to the destruction of the status quo of the new Cold War. He kicks off the main plot by collaborating with [=NOMAD=] to steal a bioweapon from a scientist attempting to defect to the UFS.

His Ninja Art seemingly lets him [[MesACrowd produce copies of himself]], and he uses a variety of sharp weapons, including a [[SerratedBladeOfPain sword with blade-catching spikes]], a [[ChainPain claw on the end of a chain]], and a whole lot of [[StockNinjaWeaponry throwing blades]].

* ArchEnemy: Momochi immediately earns Kotaro's hatred the moment he starts encouraging his minions to throw away their humanity using a PsychoSerum, not even helped with Momochi [[KickTheDog mocking the idea of friendship to Kotaro's face]]. Making Momochi being one of, if not, the only ''Taimanin'' antagonists that is not Oboro, Astaroth, or even Edwin Black to make Kotaro ''[[RageBreakingPoint very angry]]'' to the point even Su herself is shocked at seeing him completely incensed.
* TheChessmaster: Almost to the very end, the Taimanin find themselves outmaneuvered and outsmarted by their quarry, as Momochi manages to catch them by surprise and steal the bioweapon, kill his contact within the Venamese Liberation Army before he can be interrogated, fool them with a feint and a body-double, and start the terror attack. Later deconstructed when it turns out his plans are a lot more haphazard than they at first appear.
* ClippedWingAngel: His [[OneWingedAngel hideous, building-sized final boss form]] is actually much easier to deal with than his normal shape, presenting a big target with long wind-ups on his easily-dodged attacks, and only gets weaker as the player chops off more and more of its limbs. The hardest part is, ironically, the swarms of his body doubles that show up while the battle is ongoing.
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Of the DiabolicalMastermind engaging in constant gambits. Momochi's plans-within-plans turn out to be products of his degrading mental state, with Kotaro eventually pointing out how many of them contradict one another, [[GambitRoulette rely on factors completely outside of his control]], or even seem self-defeating, and his willingness to sacrifice anything to bring them to fruition ultimately causes his final defeat.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Ultimately defied with the revelation that Momochi is doping on demon blood that's driving him hopelessly insane by his second appearance; this is why he can go from ranting about hating the Gosha leadership for being lapdogs of the complacent government to putting his trust in Asagi to fix the world he'll wreck over the course of a few sentences.
* EliteMooks: Those wannabe-ninjas he's personally trained are significantly tougher than the standard models.
* EvilCounterpart: To Kotaro Fuuma, rightfully so as Kotaro himself acknowledged having so many similarities to Momochi. Both happen to be Taimanins who lack the ability to master their own ninjutsu, but somehow having a natural talent that make a difference. Kotaro is the task force's computer expert and MissionControl while Momochi is a trained swordsman for most of his life. Kotaro began [[TrueCompanions trusting his fellow Taimanins]] not minding how many times he gets looked down upon, Momochi is more willing to encourage his own followers to throw away their humanity, including his in pursuit of a utopia where humans are free from the corruption by demons. Momochi's utter LackOfEmpathy is the one moment that made Fuuma finally [[RageBreakingPoint snap]].
* GuiltFreeExterminationWar: Momochi's goal is to instigate a war between humanity and demonkind so that one side will leave no survivors, which explains his attempt to leak the data of the Nomad's connections to various world governments.
* FantasticRacism: Momochi is openly bigoted towards all of demonkind as a whole, having no qualms of exterminating all demons around the world, even those who coexist with humanity.
* FinalSolution: Momochi desires to wipe out every demon from the face of the Earth to the point he plans to upload all the information of the Demon Realm and the Nomad for the entire world to see to gaslight humanity and demonkind to go into an all-out war of extermination between two races until either side leave no survivors.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: A skillful swordsman and Asagi's former master who went mad over his inability to master his own ninjutsu to becoming a notorious terrorist that caused a ZombieApocalypse and plans to further widen the rift between humanity and demonkind.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: His daughter Nagi outright calls him out for his atrocities he has committed, making him no better than the Nomad.
* TheHeavy: Momochi is primarily the main source of the conflict the task force engages with, while the Nomad are more or less likely the LesserOfTwoEvils until the endgame chapters.
* HumansAreBastards: He comes to view humans, including world governments who side with Nomad, as part of the problem, and decided to personally rectify this mistake. This isn't a consistent belief the way his hatred of demons is, but he does sometimes sink into misanthropy.
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: Momochi epitomizes the worst of humanity's anti-demon extremism. Most Taimanins have demon blood within them and even willing to co-exist with benign demons. Momochi has no compunctions in further widening the rift between humanity and demonkind to the point of plotting to trick both sides into a GuiltFreeExterminationWar. He would go so far as to sacrificing his own humanity to make sure his goals are met.
* KnightOfCerebus: He stands out as a much more serious threat being able to be one step ahead of the Taimanins compared to Black and even Oboro. Toyo is more than willing to unleash a zombie apocalypse on a ''global scale''. Matters not helped that he even plans to instigate an all-out war between humanity and demonkind to the point of extermination between races.
* KnightTemplar: Momochi's end goal is to overthrow world governments sympathizing with Nomad and the extremes he'll go to borderline from commiting high-scale atrocities like causing a ZombieApocalypse to conspiring to reveal the existence of every demonic creature to the world, in which by doing so could lead into an all-out war between humanity and demonkind to the point of extermination to further justify his disillusionment with the current state of the world.
* LackOfEmpathy: Momochi shows little to no concern for the well-being of his own underlings, having no problem of viewing them as expendable pawns for his goals and even encouraging them to sacrifice their own humanity through a PsychoSerum in the name of a greater good.
* MasterSwordsman: He was Asagi's personal sword instructor, and even with her superpowered abilities it takes until the double-digit chapters for her to surpass him. This is especially impressive since it turns out [[BadassNormal he's in the same boat as Kotaro and has no Ninja Art]]; while it's ambiguous when, exactly, he started shooting up on demon blood for power ups, a credible read of the evidence is that the unstoppable killing machine he was in the first four chapters was pure skill.
* MesACrowd: His Ninja Art seemingly lets him copy himself, something he uses in both variations of his boss fight to force the player to fight four clones of himself. It's later revealed these are just body doubles, since he ''has'' no Ninja Art.
* MoralSociopathy: Momochi is still far from being TheSociopath, and what keeps him from becoming one is having a sense of right and wrong. He still despises demons that corrupt humanity as a whole, but as his daughter Nagi pointed out that every worst deed Momochi has done, regardless of how good-intentioned he may be, [[HeWhoFightsMonsters makes him no better than the Nomad]].
* ANaziByAnyOtherName: The terrorist variant. Momochi has a very prejudiced ideology, viewing the existence of demons as a blight to humanity and world governments who sympathize with factions like the Nomad. He has no problem instigating a GuiltFreeExterminationWar between humans and demons and plans to use Asagi as his puppet leader for his ideal utopia.
* OneWingedAngel: When finally cornered in Venam, he shoots himself up with a massive dose of the Creeping Death, transforming him into a gigantic, building-sized abomination. The process [[DeathOfPersonality turns him into a mindless force of destruction]], but he's willing to do it if it means furthering his aim and [[TakingYouWithMe destroying the Task Force]].
* OmnicidalManiac: Chapter 15 reveals that Momochi not only plans to expose Nomad, but also expose the existence of demonic creatures to the world, which will lead to an endless cycle of death and destruction between humanity and demonkind until there would be no survivors left on either side, making Asagi's response to Momochi's endgame during the confrontation all the more plausible. Although he ''usually'' claims accelerationism, arguing that these short-term teething pains will ultimately make a better world, in his darker moments Momochi actually agrees with her.
* PsychoSerum: Momochi's increasing use of blood from ever-more-powerful demons degrades and warps his body and mind and drags him ever closer to a total physical meltdown even as it supercharges his physical abilities. It also turns out to be the means he uses to become an EmpoweredBadassNormal, since he has no Ninja Art.
* RedemptionEarnsLife: Downplayed inasmuch as how ''much'' life it earns him is ambiguous, but giving up his mad ambitions and going into semi-retirement after trying to help Asagi and the Taimanin one last time seems to have at least somewhat stabilized his mental state and ruined body, if only because he's no longer actively pumping PsychoSerum into it.
* ShadowArchetype: He turns out to be one to Kotaro Fuuma himself, a fellow brilliant, charismatic Taimanin who never awakened his Ninja Art and faced feelings of inferiority and discrimination because of it. But where Kotaro refused to let those feelings define him, ultimately stepping up more and more to head the Task Force and use his real talents to make a difference, Momochi allowed his envy and self-loathing to consume him, leading him to embrace ever more self-destructive means of empowering himself at the expense of his physical and mental well-being. And while Kotaro's friendship and support from his comrades helped him shore up his sense of self-worth and grow into a leader, Momochi's obsession with sacrifice causes him to lead his own followers to their deaths, nearly destroying himself in the process.
* StrawNihilist: At his core, Momochi finds no value in life, including his own, along with the extreme lengths he will go to achieve his goals. It's a manifestation of his self-loathing for never being able to manifest a Ninja Art, even though realistically as a MasterSwordsman and BadassNormal whose genius and charisma almost brought the world to its knees, he has nothing to be ashamed of.
* {{Ubermensch}}: Played with and deconstructed. Momochi believes that he can help the oppressed to rise up against those who hold power, even if it means making sacrifices for the greater good. But as far as the gravity of his atrocities go, he becomes progressively self-destructive and not only is willing to sacrifice even his own underlings, but his own humanity as well.
* VillainousLegacy: After Momochi's defeat and semi-HeelFaceTurn into retirement, one of his main body doubles and disciples continues to lead his faction of rogue Taimanin in his absence, doubling-down on all of his destructive philosophies and ensuring that the damage Momochi has done will outlive him.
* VillainRespect: While he sneers at their willingness to work for the government and uphold the status quo rather than revolt against it as he has done, Momochi still has some respect for his greatest pupil, Asagi, and never discounts the possibility that the Taimanin could destroy his plans if they get close enough. Although his insanity by his second appearance makes it difficult to tell how true it is, at least ''some'' of the time his plan is for Asagi to assume absolute power as a military dictator and fix the world while cleaning up after him.
* WalkingSpoiler: It's hard to thoroughly discuss the full extent of Momochi's end goal for players new to the game.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Momochi wants to help the oppressed and colonized people of the world rise up against both the UFS and the Chinese Union... and he doesn't care how many of them he has to kill to do it. Notably, his plot to help the Venamese people sees countless Venamese citizens and expatriates dead. Later, he also tries to bring down the Japanese government so that Asagi will have to assume power as a military dictator to restore order, and to [[BrokenMasquerade expose the identities of every demon living on Earth to the public]], even though it's made clear that this will only cause countless law-abiding demons living incognito who haven't done anything wrong to suffer hardship and discrimination or even trapped in a cycle of hatred and violence between humanity and demonkind that could wipe out either sides.

The powerful ruler of the magma-flowing, burning plains in the corner of the demon realm, the "Queen of the Inferno" has the power to manipulate fire at will. Astaroth is centuries old and an acquaintance of the Vampire King, Edwin Black, but went their separate ways due to conflicting views. She encountered the task force on Kotrara Island, her base of operations, and has frequently clashed with UFS and the Chinese Union, because of her chosen place, but there are no records of any serious harm towards the two organizations.

* AdvancingBossOfDoom: Not in gameplay terms, but story-wise the entirety of Chapter 10 consists of the Task Force running away from her as she is powerful enough to easily kill them.
* AllPowerfulBystander: She is a "Royal demon", one of the most powerful demons in existence and explicitly described as being the equal of [[GreaterScopeVillain Edwin Black]] in sheer destructive potential, but she is much more interested in [[TheHedonist simply enjoying herself]] than in inflicting grand-scale destruction or suffering.
* BadBoss: Has no problem with abusing her Succubus minions in order to "motivate" them to do her bidding.
* TheBadGuyWins: Although her fight against the King of the Death Wraiths and Edwin Black ended in a stalemate thanks to the task force defeating the Vampire King, Astaroth is the only high-ranking demon to ultimately come up on top by leaking Momochi's data to the world, leading to a global turmoil between countries and subsequently the downfall of Nomad.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: She decides to leak all of Momochi's files exposing the Nomad's evil to the world. Not only she did Momochi a favor, she also instigated an EnemyCivilWar between herself and Edwin Black.
* BathingBeauty: Hot springs are one of her favoured pleasures. Her Playable Character Intimacy event has Kotaro stumble on her bathing, and one of the story event has her [[EvilIsPetty go on a three-minutes rampage of destruction because the baths at the establishment she stayed at were unsatisfactory]].
* BewareTheSuperman: [[spoiler:Given her past as the Sun Goddess that once worshipped by a certain ancient civilization, her immense power over fire proved to be a clear danger to the human realm.]]
* BloodKnight: Battling strong opponents is one of her favorite pleasures.
* ColonyDrop: A variation. But one of her basic skills as well as her Ultimate both involves her creating an immense fireball above enemies, and then dropping it on them.
* TheDreaded: Astaroth has a fearsome reputation both among her minions and the Taimanin as her powers make her near invulnerable and extremely destructive if angered.
* EnemyCivilWar: She had a falling out with Edwin Black at some point and has since distanced herself from him. Then in chapter 16, she decides to further escalate the tension by using [[spoiler:Momochi's information about the Nomad's connections with world governments and various criminal syndicates leaking them for the entire world to see]]. The Taimanins also proceeded to [[spoiler:[[GodzillaThreshold drag the Death Wraiths]] into the conflict.]]
* EvilFormerFriend: To Edwin Black, due to their conflicting worldview. Black only seeks to expand his criminal empire while Astaroth only lives to satisfy her worldly pleasures. She even go so far to leak Momochi's data of Nomad's connections to various world governments just to spite him.
* EvilIsPetty: One story event see her tricked into bathing in a crappy establishment. Her answer to the disappointing experience? Declare that she is about to go on a destructive rampage for three minutes, and anyone still alive after that is forgiven.
* FallenAngel: Or Fallen Goddess to be exact. [[spoiler:She was once worshipped as a Sun Goddess by an ancient civilization, but her tremendous power proved her to be a threat to the entire world as a result.]]
* FallenHeroine: [[spoiler:Her Dark Sun supporter bio states that she was once worshipped as the Goddess of the Sun by a certain ancient civilization centuries ago, while she is reviled as a demon everywhere else. Then, she got completely bored with the human world. Given that her destructive power makes enough sense that she would become what she would be known in the present as "Queen of Inferno".]]
* HealingFactor: Like all high-ranking demons, Astaroth has an extremely potent one. In chapter 19 she is thrown into a wall hard enough for her arms and spine to bend "at unnatural angles" but she is treats it as barely an inconvenience and heals in instants.
* TheHedonist: The King of the Death Wraiths insults her by saying as much. Astaroth [[InsultBackfire completely agrees with him]], saying that someone of her power is in the right to do whatever she wishes. She is overall more interested in enjoying herself with hot springs, fighting, sex, and good food than in causing any grand-scale suffering or evil.
* ItAmusedMe: The bio of her Playable version ([[GameplayAndStorySegregation whether it's canon or not]]) states that the only reason she is helping the Task Force is "a powerful demon acting on a whim". As TheHedonist, this is also the reason for almost ''anything'' she does.
* JustToyingWithThem: The only reason the Task Force survive their encounters with her is that each times she is explicitly looking for amusement rather than their death. The very first encounter in chapter 10 is explicitly a RunOrDie situation as [[TheAce Asagi herself]] utterly failed to hurt her.
* KillerRabbit: She conjures rabbits made out of her flames called "Yuuto". They can explode on contact, and even multiply to create a sea of fire.
* MadBomber: The simple fact that she can create [[KillerRabbit fire bunnies]] with high explosive power and can multiply like rodents that can create a sea of fire. She ''really'' enjoys blowing stuff up.
* MoodSwinger: While Astaroth is less of a macro-level threat than Edwin Black due to her lack of ambition and malice, she's no less dangerous due to her extremely mercurial personality.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: By leaking Momochi's data on a worldwide scale she does more damage to Edwin Black's criminal empire and the Task Force bringing the Death Wraiths into the fray, which sets up the Story Mode's endgame chapters.
* NighInvulnerable: One of the most powerful demons in existence has the durability to match, and it is mentionned that the Task Force's strongest attacks (courtesy of [[StrongAndSkilled Shiranui and Asagi]]) barely phaze her. It takes getting into a fight with the similarly-powerful Edwin Black and King of the Death Wraiths for Astaroth to start getting wounded in any meaningful way, and even then [[HealingFactor she's back to normal in seconds]].
* PersonOfMassDestruction: You're not considered the equal of [[BigBad Edwin Black]] without being this. The island where the Task Force first meets her is noted to have been reduced to a fiery wasteland by her rampage, and the three-way melee between her, Black, and the King of the Death Wraiths levels the military base they're brawling in, while the three of them are barely damaged by it.
* PlayingWithFire: She has immense power over her ability to control fire.
* PsychopathicWomanchild: For a powerful demon who has been around the human world for centuries, Astaroth is unpredictably childish, causing chaos just to satisfy her boredom.
* RedBaron: "Queen of the Inferno", befitting both her [[RankScalesWithAsskicking position as a "royal" demon]] and her [[PlayingWithFire powers]].
* Really700YearsOld: Astaroth's age is never elaborated upon. [[spoiler:Her Dark Sun supporter bio states that she has been around the human world centuries ago when an ancient civilization worshipped her as a Sun Goddess.]]

As she was once worshipped by an ancient civilization as the Goddess of the Sun but her immense power proved to be overwhelmingly dangerous that she becomes a threat to the human world. In the present, she is a high-ranking demon who not only enjoys causing chaos, but has a need for stimulation to keep herself amused.]]
* TheSociopath: A low key example, but nevertheless shows notable textbook traits. Astaroth has a blatant lack of fear or shame, shows little to no concern for the collateral damage she causes, with her most defining is her need for stimulation, and not having the slightest problem causing mayhem and destruction if agitated enough or just for kicks.
* {{Troll}}: She enjoys messing with humans and demons alike just to get their reactions.
* VillainProtagonist: One of the setting's most powerful demons, ambivalent to the Task Force at best in her appearances, and a playable character.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: She and Edwin Black were once close associates, until her boredom made her fall out with the vampiric crime lord.

A high-rank demon who is one of the ten most powerful demons in the demon realm, and the ruler of the Death Wraiths.\\\

Currently, he is the chief of one of the three powers vying for the title of the demon realm's next ruler. He is leading an alliance composed of many races that follow him. He insists that he is in this competition more for his hatred of the vampire, Edwin Black, than for the throne of the demon realm.\\\

His body is composed of the fire of his soul, and he has no true form.

* AffablyEvil: Being a Death Wraith, he shows no hostility towards humans and treats the task force with civility as he tests each of the Taimanins' determination. He has no problem even using other allies as bait to get ahead, something that Fuuma accepts.
* BloodKnight: Like many high-ranking demons, the King of the Death Wraiths glories in the thrill of combat. His status as a nigh-immortal means that the risk of death isn't a part of it, but he still enjoys displaying his immense strength and skill, and sometimes spares enemies that fight fiercely enough in battles they effectively cannot win. In one event, he holds a tournament where human "teams" representing in-universe factions battle non-lethally while the Death Wraiths simply watch, but naturally after the final round he can no longer restrain himself from running into the battlefield and participating personally.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Death Wraiths devour human souls, but they do so as a weird manifestation of love and fascination for humans, and they prefer human souls that are pure and virtuous, even if those virtues [[EvilVirtues have lost their way]]. This is also the reason for their racial animosity towards vampires (and implicitly witches), which corrupt the soul and turn humans into demonic beings.
* TheDreaded: He's a high-rank demon whose power equals that of the Queen of the Inferno and the Vampire King himself. And the fact that they both engage in a fight to the death in the last five chapters and the destruction they left behind on the UFS base is on a nearly apocalyptic level.
* ExpyCoexistence: Originally seemingly a clear copy-cat of Teutates, another master of undead demons in the franchise, it's later made very explicit that both exist and don't get along.
* AFatherToHisMen: The King does not treat his own kin as expendables, as despite the immortality of the Death Wraiths, he's more concerned with the well-being of his kind.
* TheGiant: The King of the Death Wraith takes form of a colossal armored skeleton armed with a large mace. It's no wonder he stands out as one of the most powerful high-ranking demons in the ''Taimanin'' series, and he makes both Astaroth and Edwin Black looking like mice that he's about to crush underneath his heel.
* GoodCounterpart: "Good" is relative, he ''is'' still a demon who eats human souls. But the King of the Death Wraiths is nonetheless portrayed as the lesser evil in comparison to the other demonic rulers who've shown up so far.
** To Edwin Black. Both are feared demonic monarchs of their respective kins. Black is stoic and unperturbed, but his mere presence alone is enough to instill dread. The King of the Death Wraiths, while uncompromising, is loud and bombastic when pumped up. Black has the power to manipulate gravity, while the King of the Death Wraiths can be empowered by positive energies of the human soul such as benevolence and unwavering resolve.
** Also to Astaroth. They both live to fight strong opponents, but the King of the Death Wraiths has a sense of restraint, challenging only those who possess a pure of heart and unwavering willpower.
* GreaterScopeVillain: To Toyo Momochi, as he is one who put his conviction to the test.
* TheJuggernaut: He's the tallest known character in the game to easily dwarf both Astaroth and Edwin Black, and the destruction they both leave behind goes up on an apocalyptic scale.
* KnightOfCerebus: Momochi's presence and his goals were already dark in and of itself. The Death Wraiths being roped as the third party of the ensuing EnemyCivilWar between Astaroth and Edwin Black becomes a [[ThereCanBeOnlyOne battle for demonic supremacy]] and the destruction they left behind reaches on a biblical scale.
* LargeAndInCharge: He is the top dog of the Death Wraiths and is further enforced by his hulking stature.
* LargeHam: The King of the Death Wraiths is loud and bombastic once he is ready to fight, further complimenting his gargantuan appearance. Otherwise, he often speaks with solemn cordiality when in deep thought.
* NervesOfSteel: He barely flinches even when under pressure, as Fuuma observed, the mere fact that the King is so uncompromising even when the numbers are against him is astounding.
* NominalHero: He and his fellow Death Wraiths join forces with the Taimanins to bring down Edwin Black, but the King has no problem being sneaky at using his human allies as bait to get ahead. [[PragmaticHero Fuuma]], on the other hand, is okay with it though so long as it results in the success of the mission.
* ShadowArchetype: To both Fuuma and Momochi without their inferiority complex overshadowing their skills as a Taimanin, having the confidence to master their own natural abilities without having the need of a ninja art. It also helps that Momochi came to the King to test his worth and resolve.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: To Teutates, who holds a similar position and role in the ''Battle Arena'' continuity, as a more neutrally-aligned demon leader of TheUndead. Kiryu also has a StalkerShrine filled with pictures of her in the infirmary, and some of the other Taimanin enjoy teasing the Undying about his devotion to her, much to her dismay. Sabato's crush also has its benefits as Murasaki convinced the doctor to cooperate with Gosha by threatening to never speak to him again if he refuses, keeping him in line.

In chapter 21, she opted to retreat instead of taking the task force head on, showing that despite letting Lapis take charge as her second-in-command, Spinel avoids making bad decisions that put the lives of her fellow mercenaries in danger.

Originally a low-rank mercenary, she apparently tried to take down the former leader of the unit who ruled their kin with an iron fist. However, because said former leader was killed in battle by Sora, they failed at a proper "crowning".\\\

Though they claim why they after Sora to get revenge on their former leader, the truth of the story is more complicated than it looks.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Lapis is AffablyEvil at best and is basically a more functioning leader than Spinel, but even Spinel herself is ''terrified'' of Lapis if she gets mad.
