Wasn't around for the initial show in the eighties and the 2010 version is shameless garbage.
This show, however, has a plot that keeps you engaged and characters that you can't possibly get enough of. Shiro, Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Allura are all amazing and instantly you're wanting them to succeed at defending the universe. The orange-hair british-sounding guy I wasn't too fond of, but being the least favorite is still a favorite.
Going in, I was expecting this to be the Red Ranger (and a bit of everyone else) show like these sorts of colorful team ensembles normally turn into. Was pleasantly surprised. Keith, despite being red, is actually levelheaded and calculating at times when you don't expect him to be. By contrast, Lance is always all ego and energy even though he's the Blue Paladin.
People say a show's only as good as its villains, and Zarkon turned out to actually be pretty cool. After standing in the shadows and doing the evil overlord thing, we actually see him face off against Team Voltron towards the end, doing straight-up battle against a Lion and handling himself, showing why you don't want to mess with this guy. His subordinate seriously messing with Shiro is also interesting.
The creators of the show, which includes a lot of the team from Legend of Korra, set out to make something that would be as amazing as the show kids in the 80s felt like they were watching with the original Voltron. They definitely did. With its own plot thread and universe taking broad strokes from the old shows adapted to Voltron and fine-tuning them into a sort of Ultimate Voltron version, hopefully season 2 will get here sooner rather than later.
WesternAnimation Definitely a fan now
