I must say, I am positively surprised by this sequel.
While I overall liked the first movie, in my opinion it was a bit too slow-paced, and started hitting Ending Fatigue pretty hard near the end - its running time felt like at least 2 solid hours rather than those 90 minutes (including credits). By the time the movie finally reached the end, I was glad it's over.
The sequel, by contrast, seems to be on freaking steroids. It's bursting with energy and never gives you a chance to be bored. The characters move with a fast-paced, ridiculously fluid cartoony grace that is simply fascinating to watch; it's like Hotel Transylvania's style of animation taken Up to Eleven. The story is engaging and keeps you at the edge of your seat, constantly wondering what will happen next. And the villain... oh, he's the perfect example of a guy who is evil to the bones, and yet you just can't hate him because he's so enjoyable and such a marvel to watch.
My only complaint would be that the other characters seem a bit pushed to the side: Brent and Manny could be cut out of the movie entirely with little loss, Earl surprisingly rarely speaks up during more serious moments (I mean really, there are at least a few times when he's just standing there and watching people engage in a heated discussion), and Flint's father shows up only a few times, being pushed aside for the majority of the movie both by his friends AND the filmmakers.
That said, the movie is still a lot of fun with a lot of heart, and is worth watching at the very least for its marvelous animation, for the overload of Food Porn, and for the villain.
WesternAnimation Very enjoyable
