Ani Mat is a critic who I started watching around the time of his first Animation Lookback on Walt Disney Animation Studios, which I remember enjoying and seeing his new potential on the horizon. I've enjoyed most of his material because he has a relatable liking to the mediums he would usually discuss and review. One series I like from him is usually the Animation Lookbacks because there would be some new information about a piece of media I may not have heard of before.
However, I have noticed an unpleasant trend going on in some of his videos and that would be the insults thrown at the viewers if they happen to like a film he doesn't. This practice was pulled in his his top 10 list of 2013. Now, I'll be honest and say I do agree with most of his choices. Even Cloudy he had every right to not like the film if he so desired and criticize if he felt the need to. That's not why I'm writing this review though. What annoyed me most about it was something he said that was so insulting and borderline condescending, that I've been more watchful of his videos from then on because I like most of his content. However, he had been insulting his viewers before with his review of Hotel Transylvania (which I saw the film and I'm mixed about it) and his ridiculous argument about H.T.'s animation being "too cartoony" (which doesn't make any sense because animation can be whatever it wants to be and the film has it's quiet moments when it does).
There's also the fact he constantly makes flat-out absurd comparisons to films he doesn't like and the films he's comparing are nothing alike. The fact that he's able to make awful assumptions about his own audience and still get money from his Patreon and Blip accounts is absolutely inexcusable. I could go on and on about the blatant hypocrisy regarding his reviews. His Cloudy 2 thoughts are scarily similar to Armond White's condescending and inaccurate review of Toy Story 3, a film I know he likes and I do too, his bias for what he thinks animation should look like or his removing of comments criticizing him on his YouTube page (saying you're entitled to opinions is a cop-out) but I think I'm done writing this and I hope he learns from this.
