VideoGame Super Smash Flash 2 Version 9 (a redone review)
Pros:
- Like a Smash brothers game...for the most part
- Some ideas for characters worked like Sora (when he could switch spells), Ness, and even Zelda/Sheik (forward air needs a nerf)
- Pretty good for casuals who want to have fun or are looking for a gateway into a Smash game
Cons:
- Some things are outright broken (Wario and Lloyd (to a lesser extent))
- Some characters are WAY too good (Peach (Bottom tier my ass. She's not overpowered but she is way better than she should be and significantly takes out most of the roster), Wario, Sonic)
- (Major) Projectile game (except maybe Samus) and the usage of high tier characters is rewarded way too much. Some characters don't even stand a chance against others (Mario) and are bottom tier as a result due to spammy projectiles. All thanks to....
- (Major) .....The absence of lag in attacks or being completely unable to catch them in it due it being really quick.
- Spiking....K Oing and starting a combo from 0%? Not being able to recover? Seriously?
Closing Thoughts:
Casually, I think that this game is pretty fun. I like playing it sometimes when I don't try to take it seriously. I personally think that ersions seven and eight are two of my favorite Smash Flash games. Seven because of some creativity when it comes to the characters and eight because the mechanics are really good in that game.
Competitively, I think it just doesn't work. I have no idea how people think this game is ready for competitive play. Wario's combos (especially his down air) is broken as all hell and Lloyd's just spammy (If you don't believe me, just use his recovery on the ground then use his neutral air. Rinse and repeat.). Those are just a few of them.
I also do not appreciate the clear advantage some characters have over others. Peach, Wario, and Naruto (These aren't the only ones) are all WAY better than a majority of the roster and some of them outright destroy the approaching options of some characters.
And the last point I can cover is the absence of lag. Dear god, who thought this was a good idea? Either there is no lag in attacks or there is VERY little. Lloyd's neutral air, for example. should have a lot of lag since it strings into so many combos and covers so much space in a quick amount of time.
I'll make a full review of this game in my blog but for now, this will suffice.
VideoGame Super smash flash 2 Version 9
Pros:
Great gameplay and feels like Smash Bros
Surprisingly good sprites for each character
The stages are well done as well
Each character has their own strengths as well as their own weaknesses (Except Black Mage)
Adding in the punching bag on Online mode is a nice touch.
Cons:
Black Mage is freaking overpowered and needs to be nerfed.
(community wise) On online mode, some people pull the cheapest bullshit. (one guy continued ramming me with Wario and used no skill and another guy kept on spamming Llyod's ranged attacks) This wouldn't be a problem if so many people didn't do it.
Online Mode is full of bugs and flaws. (if one person leaves then the entire match shuts down. Even if there is four people.)
Overall:
This is a surprisingly good fangame and is a major improvement over the previous flash game. The stages, characters, and even the features seem to be improved upon. I especially like how they added in anime characters and didn't make them feel overpowered at all.
Every character seems to be balanced...well...all except one....
Black Mage. He is the Meta Knight of this game. All of his smash attacks have ridiculous range and he even has a grab that POISONS you. His recovery is also ridiculously good as you are guaranteed a safe spot on the stage since it goes ridiculously far even if you are really close to dying. There is some clear favoritism going on. I wouldn't have minded so much if people didn't use him in online mode. But guess what? They do.
Speaking of Online mode, this has got to be one of the glitchiest online modes I have ever played. There is outrageous lag during your match AND THAT'S IF YOU EVEN GET TO FIGHT! Plus it doesn't help that some of the players there are cheap as all hell. There are some good players sure. But most of them are either spammers, cowards (using ranged attacks for most of the match), or just plain annoying (Wario dash...ugh). Sure you can dodge them, but they're pretty damn annoying.
But those are only 3 flaws. If you can get past that, then you have a pretty solid flash game on your hands. I personally feel that its one of the best.
VideoGame Review Super Flash Smash 2
A really good game that was completely fun and just a clasically good game. I think that the controls were a little bit akward though, because it's hard to hold hands directly next to each other, while press buttons repetitively. Especially when they're in a certain position. The gameplay of Super Flash Smash 2 was awesome, with the whole game being really like the console version of freegames66.
