VideoGame The Ultimate Smash Experience
Just three words: EVERYONE IS HERE!
Finally, every character previously featured in a Smash game is in the same game! In my opinion, I was very excited when I first saw that Direct that confirmed every character, especially with Snake and Wolf's return. Even seeing characters I didn't care about at the time (i.e. Young Link and Pichu) made me glad they're finally back. And yes, this includes Dark Pit, who I really hated back in Smash 4, but I started to see him in a better light now; and no, that wasn't because of the Echo Fighter branding, but because I wrongly thought he got in over others when it wasn't the case.
As for the new fighters, I really loved every single one, especially Daisy, Ridley, Simon, and King K. Rool, all of them for finally making their Smash debuts. Daisy because I think she was the Mario supporting character who maybe needed this the most; Ridley because of his hitting the BIG time meaning a lot for the Metroid fanbase; King K. Rool for similar reasons to Ridley, but for DKC instead.
In regards to Simon, it's more of a personal one, as I'm a big fan of Castlevania, so of course I was very happy to finally see him (and Richter too) in Smash (like I was with Ryu's inclusion in Smash 4), but that also means Konami came back to Smash stronger than ever, what with Snake returning, but all those awesome Castlevania and Metal Gear songs. Coming from Konami, that really says something.
Anyway, as for the gameplay, it really improved in all aspects. Kinda wish there were more single-player modes like Home-Run Contest, but who knows? Maybe they'll get added later? At least now it's possible to play an all-Ice Climbers or all-Guest Fighters 8-player Smash (who would have thought it'd be possible to see Snake, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu, Cloud, Bayonetta and Simon all in the same match?)
Only thing I didn't like was certain highly requested characters only making it in as Assist Trophies, but it's less that they aren't playable, and more that they took so long to be debunked, when it appeared at first that they would be more than Assists (unpopular opinion: the Assist I wanted to be playable was surprisingly not Waluigi, but Krystal; at least she's aknowledged, after Star Fox Zero kicked her out of the franchise).
Overall, the pros GREATLY outweigh the very little cons, so there are no excuses for not trying this game. If you have a Switch, this game is a MUST.
VideoGame Far Better Than Smash 4
As someone who liked Brawl (the game that got me interested in the franchise), Smash 4 was honestly a big improvement. Gone was random tripping and in were new characters and stages. That being said, it was still slower than Melee and more defence heavy. It also lacked an adventure mode all together and had the widely maligned Smash Tour. The loss of several characters was also majorly disappointing. I had assumed it would be the last Smash game given Sakurai's hand injuries and past instances of him not wanting to make another Smash game.
Oh, how wrong I was.
Come 2018. The Smash teaser that blew everybody's mind. That year's E3 showing that EVERYONE IS HERE! This Smash game, Ultimate would release and fix the many problems of Smash 4 and improve on the Smash formula altogether. With a faster pace in gameplay, better modes, a new Adventure mode filled with twists and turns while improving on every fighter and bringing new DLC fighters to the mix makes this easily a far better Smash game than 4.
It also feels cleaner and more refined than 4 was. The classic mode has better cohesion to each fighter than 4's unfocused mess both on 3DS and Wii U. I appreciate the sheer level of detail put into each of the characters' histories. Also, while the loss of trophies is disappointing due to how fun they were to collect, Spirits are rather enjoyable to mess around with and collect.
I'm so glad Ultimate happened. It is ultimately one of my favourite games in the series and possibly ever.
