For some reason why Daishi Odashima left Project Soul and Motohiro Okubo taking the helm explains why V nearly killed the Soul series. Well, to put it simply, the story is incomplete in its own right, and we couldn't get to see an in-depth overview on the new characters. It also doesn't help that the protagonist in the story mode is a whiny Knight Templar (Patroklos) who kills random innocent people whom he believed to be Malfested, and he's in fact the son of one of the mainstays of the franchise (Sophitia).
VideoGame Messy storyline

And the fact that the events of the game as of Soulcalibur VI is now a Bad Future considering the latest game reboots the timeline, it also served as a middle finger to Odashima by Okubo, thanks to Cassandra's story mode in VI, hopefully Patroklos doesn't exist in the new timeline for a change.
