VideoGame Now this is a hack.
Excellent levels, new and nostalgic music, very long gameplay, very original bosses, and a Hard mode. This hack is easily the best hack of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
VideoGame Makes Nintendo look lazy
I had no experience with hacks when I found Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii mentioned on ThatOneLevel.Super Mario Bros and became curious. I was sceptical, but the trailer I watched looked good, so I decided to download Newer to see if it was worth it.
It certainly was, and I got much more than I expected. The music is great, both the new songs and the ones from earlier Mario games. The new enemies and bosses are creative. There are lots of Homages and Continuity Nods that aren't present in official NSMB games. In addition, the developers added several fun touches like Goombas with Santa hats. There's so much new stuff here that Newer doesn't feel like a new version of NSMB, as the official NSMB sequels may do. It feels like a new game.
The new world designs deserve a special mention. Nintendo keeps on recycling the same eight themes over and over, but the developers of this game certainly didn't. They gave us Yoshi's Island, Freezeflame Volcano, and Sakura Village to name a few. The map has "major" and "minor" sections, and there are five secret worlds too. The variation in the level design is excellent, and the levels themselves are well made too. With 128 of them, three Star Coins to collect in each of them, and secret exits to find, you'll have a lot of content to enjoy.
If you like at least one game in the New Super Mario Bros. series, I wholeheartedly recommend Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii.
