TL;DR: Generic story executed well, with memorable characters. Casual time investment with mobile portability, although Gacha element is a turn-off for some.
Story: 3/5 Story is generic, standard fantasy fare and if you're a Troper, you'd probably guess the plot twists and direction of it. Of course the hero is going to travel to each city-state, help the citizens, and save it from its current crisis. Of course the hero is going to win against the local, antagonistic God-Empress.
Nevertheless, there are enough mysteries beneath the surface that are yet to be revealed, turning these cliches into enigmas, instead of a bore.
Gameplay: 4/5 Combat is limited and simplistic at surface value, with 5 different weapons only and 2 skills per character. But a short visit to theorycrafting and minmaxer forum will reveal much, much deeper mechanics, on how to maximize reactions and damage, maximizing dps, etc.
Exploration, puzzle-solving and treasure-hunting is a major element; Teyvat is full of ancient wonders and mysteries. They are sadly, non-repeatable. Players can either complete these in one go and spend less time for daily grind, or do these piecemeal with daily grind to extend the gameplay, while waiting for next patches.
Daily grind is 4 commissions + 180 Resin burning. Personally, I find the Resin system to be a blessing in disguise, as my daily grind would at most take 1 hour. Combined with its roots as a mobile game, this allows the game to be enjoyed by those with less time to commit.
Character/ization: 5/5 They aren't kidding when they call this 'Breath of the Waifu' or 'Waifu Impact'. Each of the playable and major characters are fully-voiced, with their own backstory and quirks, that you feel personal attachment to them rather than just a usable unit. Story quests, Hangout Events and Teapot furniture sets further add flavor to their personality, and I think this is the biggest draw of the game for some.
