Croc is one of the first games I've ever played and as such has a certain nostalgic appeal to me. There are however, many things that are wrong with it as well as some that are really good about it.
The First Game:
-bad-
The controls are just too sensitive. I cannot count how many times I've fallen off the ledge of a floating platform
The goddamn water levels. Controls are bad in here, and it doesn't help that all of the enemies are incredibly overpowered
Enemies re-spawn after a little while
Bosses are tedious
-good-
ALL of the enemies are completely original
Somewhat good music gets a little tiring after a while
Environments are somewhat fresh despite being re-hashes of the Super Mario Worlds
The Second Game:
-bad-
The Simlish that the characters speak can get VERY GRATING from time to time.
Product placement Gummi Savers.
Enemies are annoying.
Controls remain a bit dodgy.
Multi-controller support. Seriously, what the hell? Why would you ever use two controllers?
The goddamn hide and seek level.
-good-
Enemies stay original and are somewhat interesting
Excellent bosses.
Vehicle sections that allow cheating
Actual interesting characters and attachment to the Gobbos.
Water levels downplayed a TON.
More features in general
Recommendation? It's worth a play-through. Rent it if you want, probably not worth buying the first game. The second game is a definitely good purchase and it can be played independent of Croc 1.
