I have a thing for the supernatural genre. Vampires, werewolves, witches, you name it. But I also have a thing for action girls. As for the males, I like to see the guys be vulnerable and soft, and not be a tough alpha male all the time.
Characterization aside, I tried to give this show a chance, but it failed to draw me in. Like Vampire Diaries and Originals, this one didn't live up to the hype - at least in my opinion. Several male heroes gave me toxic masculinity vibes, and the female heroes always get saved, probably because they have vaginas. Even the so-called "action girls." The females had the potential to be strong fighters, yet they weren't.
I'm guessing the writers have a thing for outdated gender roles and tropes. I don't like female characters who don't have their own thoughts or their own agency, and are constantly damsels in distress. However, I don't expect female characters to be stoic Mary Sues.
I'd like to see the males be the ones in distress sometimes, and have the girls save them. The writers should not have held the girls back whenever there's some action. Instead, they should have let the girls kick some serious butt.
This is not a show I would recommend to anyone. It's okay if someone likes the show. This one isn't my cup of tea.
Series Wanted to like it, but couldn't
