Discovered this morning that "Blue Peter" is now being shown on proper BBC again (BBC2 on a weekend morning) and tuned in out of curiosity. (non-British readers, please talk among yourselves during this post?) Alas, totally disillusioned. The theme tune has been jazzed up almost out of recognition, and the presenters are... well, unmemorable. I was interested to see which of them ticked off the tropes to be the current Valerie Singleton, John Noakes and Peter Purvis. It used to be the case that you could identify the job spec the BP presenter is filling almost immediately. In this case.... nothing. Unmemorable cardboard presenters. And... what happened to the Make? With Britain in lockdown, demonstrating to the kids what you can do with imagination and readily available household bits, together of course with sticky-backed plastic, should be a shoe-in - basic crafting skills. But - no Make. BP really has gone down the tubes since Biddy Baxter retired, alas.
Series 2021, shadow of what it was
