With the anime adaptation of Stone Ocean coming out soon, I figured now's a good time to review the manga as any.
The main Jojo, Jolyne, is a great protagonist. As the daughter of Jotaro Kujo, she has the personality and determination of her old man. Even as she tries to distance herself from him as much as possible(changing the spelling of her last name to "Cujoh" and not "Kujo"), she shares his edgy personality, and even says her own "Yare yare" catchphrase. Her Stand, Stone Free(localized as Stone Ocean), is powerful and has an amazing ability and variety.
The other main characters, named Ermes Costello, Foo Fighters(F.F.), Weather Report, Narcisso Anasui, and Emporio Alnino, are great characters with amazing and distinct personalities. They also each have their own amazing Stand abilities and character arcs to flesh them out. Weather and Narcisso, especially.
The Big Bad of the part, Enrico Pucci, is probably one of the most fleshed out, powerful, and characterized villains in Jojo history. He serves as a Well-Intentioned Extremist with a crazy plan and a convoluted and twisted way to get there. As a servant of Dio, he recieves some backstory flashbacks with the infamous vampire himself, and shows to be a thoughtful and relaxed individual. His Stand is a unique one with a special design and overpowered ability.
As far as the Stands go, Stone Ocean's Stands have no shortage of creativity. From a Stand that acts as an indicator for a martial artist, a Stand that brings fictional characters to life, a Stand that controls the weather itself, and a Stand that can steal others' Stand abilities, the Stands here offer many different possibilities.
However, while the Stands may be cool, the users are most definitely not. The Villain of the Week format once again returns, but the minor antagonists lack any sort of depth or likeablilty. Minus a select few, at least. Some other characters from previous parts, such as Josuke Higashikata, don't return for seemingly no reason. I'm not asking for them to be major players, but a cameo or two would've been nice.
Overall, the best part to me, and I can't wait for the great characters, villain, and Stands to be adapted into the anime.
Manga My favorite part so far
