Harem stories are quite popular now a days, and this story is no exception.
What makes this story unique in today's climate is that the MC not only has legitimate reason to find himself in a formerly all-female academy, but they, in turn, have very legitimate reason to like him.
After his home nation's andocracy is overthrown in a violent coup, he's been forced into indentured servitude with a debt of 1/5th the entire nation's budget. Part of the condition applied to this is being forced to accept "odd jobs." One such job literally lands him in said academy.
What's most striking, especially from the girls' point of view is that rather than bearing resentment towards the female gender as MOST of the men do, for far less reason, he is actually very amiable, and treats them all with the respect they deserve. Even when they've been understandably less than pleasant.
Also, while the "Drag-rides" are eerily reminiscent of the mecha in Infinite Stratos, the MC isn't the only male who can use them. In fact, due to the andocracy, men used them first, although the coup revealed that women can use them better. The MC is unique even so, as he can use them better still.
The harem aspect is also very Truth in Television for an aristocratic setting, as the MC is former royalty, and the girls in question are all nobility, and Lux, the MC could realistically build a very successful nation as a result of relations with them. The fact that their personalities are highly compatible is a bonus.
What the girls love most, however, is that he genuinely treasures them, and shows no hesitation saying so, especially while fighting their enemies.
The best aspect of the story though has to be the girls. Every single one of them is FUN, and would make any man who wins their hearts very happy, and Lux knows it. As for the Principal, while her end goal is not obvious, she clearly wants Lux entangled with as many of the girls as possible, and loves nothing more than teasing him about his situation.
All in all, a very entertaining story. Even if harems are not your cup of tea, there's still plenty to enjoy in the form of battles, intrigue, and drama as well as slice-of-life romance and adventure.
I strongly recommend this to anyone entering light novels or manga.
