Literature Despite appearances
When I first checked out the anime coming out and saw the title and description I went "Great another bad show with most likely far too much fan service". I don't know why but a few months later I saw the title again and thought to give it a shot. I expected another dog days type of show where I could watch an episode or two and move on concluding that problem child was another bland show. I was surprisingly wrong. There is a bit more depth that the title and description left out. Halfway through the first season and I found myself excited to see the next episode. The characters are interesting, maybe a little too much sue for some but I found they made good escapist characters. Fan service is present but doesn't headline. Some of the action scenes are a bit too much superpower and not enough logic. So while there are some flaws that hamper the show, I would still put it at a solid 7 and worth the watch for most ages.
Literature What an absolutely bizarre love
If I was a conventional pundit, I would be condeming this series for being a crap which shows almost zero writing ability or care for any kind of sense. But it happens that it is precisely that what made me love it so much.
In the increasingly bloated world of the light novels Mondaiji-tachi takes all the conventions about good writing (and the LN templates which reign nowadays) and throws them all the window. Similar to the opening caption of You's face sleeping in zero gravity before the song starts, this series resembles a night dream of a guy too absorbed in anime and light novels with too few sleep hours. It is a quiet, pure, undisturbed mixture of animesy, away from rules and laws. With a main character who is amusingly invincible and secondary characters who embody several kinds of fanservice and fun, an non-existant episode pacing, a nice character design and a gorgeous soundtrack, Mondaiji-tachi is a must-see for people who seek an innocuous pastime among their more illustrious daily animes.
I know in my heart that this series will not get a second season, or if it does, not anytime soon. Simply, it is not the kind of product who sells. But I will remember it fondly thanks to all of the skeptical laughs and amused facepalms which it tore out of me.
