Literature don't know how this would work as a bedtime story, awful read
Obviously this book is terrible beyond compare. I would never read this to a little kid.
The author himself claims to be an "ex-gay" who wants to "help" families through therapy. The story was probably some kind of autobiography, sad as it sounds. It points to child abuse and lack of a good father figure as the "cause" of being gay. It actually said he was reaching for affection of a boy as a substitute to his father's love. Uh, creepy much?!
The story itself isn't that interesting either; it's like one of those books in the therapist waiting room. "Uncle Pete," Creepy Uncle Bad Touch, is never arrested or punished and all he had to do was "cry and say sorry" to be forgiven.
Any good family, including Catholic ones, should avoid this book at all costs. Or steal it, because it would be a pretty funny thing to have lying around your house. But don't let your kids read it; it's evil. It teaches bad and wrong things.
Literature One of the worst books I've ever read
It's truly one of the most homophobic things I've come across. True, therapy can help you overcome your issues, but did they have to include a Cure Your Gays tract in the mix? How does not having a father around result in you being gay? Consider those with single mothers (or two mothers), for example. And the cherry on top; Pete was somehow Easily Forgiven for sexually abusing Alfie. God, there isn't a single likable character besides Alfie himself, and even then, he's brainwashed into following this bad example.
