If the studios just wanted to make a movie about a nice and funny dog in the Far North, they could easily write an original screenplay about a nice and funny dog in the Far North. Unfortunately, they decided to usurp the name of one of the greatest classics of American literature, and they dutifully replaced every scene that could have been considered shocking to make it watchable to the youngest, except that in doing so they massacred the plot and the message of the novel. It could have been a nice little original movie to spend 1h30, but instead it’s a really bad adaptation. Also, using only dogs instead of real animals all the time, even in non-hazardous scenes, is a questionable decision. The only thing that saves the film in my eyes is the beauty of the landscapes, natural and artificial, and the excellent acting.
