Film Phoned In
Chappie joins a pile of recently released films that tries to fill in profound shoes that's way too large for it. This pile includes films like Lucy and Transcendence. It's a fine popcorn action movie, I like how it ended and there were some great moments, but despite it's lofty premise and themes, it didn't leave me with a lot to think about after leaving the theater. This is a movie you rent or play on Netflix one Thursday night and forget about.
Take the general plot of Iron Giant and the baddies from District 9, and you have Chappie. "Unfulfilled potential" and "phoning it in" are becoming trademarks of Neill Blomkamp.
Film A lot to unpackage....
Based on some excerpts I on You Tube, I was expecting a funny action robot movie.... not a funny action robot movie that hits me in the feels when I least expect it! Added to list of movies that really get me thinking about deep things like "What Is Consciousness?" and various ethical issues regarding AI/robotics. Plus I have some new music to listen to now, having never heard of Die Antwoord before.
