...But damn good nevertheless. Those going into it expecting the two main characters to screw each other over at every turn like a couple of friends playing Mario Party will be surprised at the way the fic eventually takes a turn into the romantic interactions between the two.
The characterization of the two main characters is the main draw to the fic, and is nothing short of incredible, going into great depth on their inner machinations, their quirks, and their flaws. While the plot follows the game's rather closely, deviating on matters involving the inclusion of both main characters, rather than the ordinary one, it feels like less a novelization in the vein of Fairly English Story and the like, and more of a character study of these two phenomenally developed teens.
The tone of the story flips between comedy and drama often. While the dramatic portions are well-written, and can carry more than a little shock value at times, the comedy is where the fic shines, particularly in the interactions between the two main characters, and a few of the more amusing side characters.
While the story is centered upon Minato and Hamuko, the other characters frequently get their time to shine. Akihiko, Mitsuru, Shinji, and Aigis in particular make frequent appearance and are given the same loving treatment as the Fools, portrayed perhaps somewhat differently than what canon shows, but realistically, given their interactions with the far more unhinged protagonists.
In short, it is a fantastic and highly recommended read, with a rapid update schedule that indicates little to no chance that it will die any time soon, and an intriguing, and occasionally dark style that hints at more twists to come.
