I'm going to level with you. This fic is C+ to B- material at most. Then again, a lot of people seem to really like it so...YMMV.
The big draw of the fic, the biggest plot point is Daisuke's charisma stat, causing countless misunderstandings simply because he couldn't persuade anyone. He could communicate, but his words held no power. He, essentially, was a slave. To the Hokage, to the village, to his friends in some way but most importantly, to his own insane arrogance and pride.
Most of this was due to my wish to preserve the post Almost Perfect breakdown. But in so doing, I wound up creating one of the stupidest Self Insert Protagonists the world has ever known. He ignores countless methods to solve the Charisma problem with every excuse that I, the author, could possibly give him to preserve the scene.
As a result, I wound up creating a rotten foundation for the sequel, when I finally dropped that habit.
The sequel, act 2, is mostly my attempt to emotionally and intellectually try to reconnect with the main character. He undoes Act 1's finale after spending some time cooling off. He gets married in a rushed and awkward romance that I'm ashamed to say was the best I could do. There's a harem subplot because he's a male and can do that. There's OC's with no build up making situations uncomfortable.
The main villain of Act 2 was accused of ruining the story.
So...I dropped it. Negative audience reaction and the realization that I just didn't connect with the MC anymore after getting over some issues I had made this the inevitable conclusion. Attempted a rewrite that's eight chapters long so far just to give me that stronger foundation for Act 2. It's available on Questionable Questing.
To those of you that did like the story, I am really sorry. I appreciate the love and support you've given me and I hope you find another story that blows mine out of the water; you guys deserve that much.
To other writers...try to avoid doing what I did. Don't sacrifice integrity to preserve a cool scene. Your readers and stories will thank you.
Fanfic A word of caution from the author.
