It's interesting to see Peter deal with Infinity War. His relationship with Mount Lady is well-written. She is young and unprepared she is but she's trying her hardest to help Peter. Peter's friendship with Pony is sweet. I love seeing a subversion of the expected friendship-to-romance. Her unrequited feelings feel very realistic. Peter's PTSD is mostly well-done with the exception of the snap trigger. The Serious vs Fun argument goes between enjoyable and hamfisted. It's often mentioned but the plot can't decide whether to support Peter or tear him down. As someone who loves Peter's banter, seeing him put down like that feels awful, especially since those that say Serious aren't sympathetic. If All Might said Peter should be more serious the argument would have more weight.
Deku is neglected. So are the others but it's most noteworthy with Deku since everyone thinks Peter is All Might's successor. Deku never gets any credit. Peter is the protagonist but the side-cast needs more to do without him. The fic is locked onto Peter and won't let go. It falls into the pitfall of having the world-hopping character be too good at everything compared to his companions with almost everyone saying how awesome he is and calling him the next All Might. Nuance was attempted with Mirko and Aizawa but it doesn't work because their characters still revolve around Peter. We don't see Aizawa interact with others in a positive manner, only his suspicious investigation of Peter. If they had stuff to do outside of Peter's influence they might be more sympathetic. They don't so they seem like jerks. Peter is not an underdog at all here. He's the popular kid who wins all the competitions without trying. Peter has losses but they feel tacked on for plot reasons. The fic did Bakugo dirty. He is flatter than a pancake that's been run over by a steam roller. He's "chapter one Suicide-dare Bakugo" until after the Sports Festival. SF in a nutshell: Poor Deku. Peter is The Best, far outshining everyone. Peter nearly beats his classmate to death- Wait. What? Why was that necessary? To "teach Bakugo a lesson"? That scene should never have happened. It was like reading a fic with a Darker and Edgier Jason Todd, not Spiderman. I can't see fic-Peter the same way. He deserves more than the slap on the wrist and Wangst he got. And Bakugo being suicidal afterward tested my patience. Screw Suicide as Drama.
FFESS is entertaining but too imbalanced towards favoring Peter. Making an underdog an ace from the start takes away part of their appeal. Peter's too central. Have development where Peter isn't involved or the motivation behind every characters' actions. Let others shine. Let them have heaps of praise piled on them.
FanFic Not Bad But Greatly Imbalanced (Spoilers)
