Fanfic A bad joke
I've seen Villain!Deku fics before. And this one is not a good one. The premise is one done before, just with a minor add on. Midoriya's dreams are crushed by All Might, so he snaps and becomes a Villain instead. Only this time, he decides to take inspiration from Marvel Comics and makes an Infinity Gauntlet. What follows is a complete mess. Suddenly Izuku turns into a wannabe Stain, decrying the society as filled with False Heroes, only instead of killing them, he instead acts using Cruel Mercy and dequirks them. While he does offer to return their quirks, its only if they conform to his very high standards. But it doesn't end there, he then proceeds to takeover a government position, employs Stain as his enforcer making it impossible to charge him for his murders, and proceeds to corrupt Uraraka and Todoroki into supporting him thanks to contrived reasons, namely the government arbitrarily making the former into a scapegoat, and the latter supporting him after he took down Endeavor, flying in the face of the two wanting to be actual heroes.
The fic tries desperately to frame it as if Izuku is right despite ostensibly being a villain, but it turns every character who doesn't agree with him into either an idiot or a strawman. He runs on Batman Gambit to the point he appears to conveniently have access to everyone's personal history, and despite all his talk about trying to make a better world, its glaringly obvious he's just a kid throwing a temper tantrum over his dream being shattered, best evident when he dequirks All Might, not because of him being a false hero, but out of petty revenge.
This Midoriya is not a real Izuku Midoriya. He has very little of Midoriya's actual traits, even ones other Villain!Deku fics keep. He is always presented in the right and anyone who challenges him is written to be either stupid or wrong.
This story is ultimately a waste of time, and a very bad joke.
Fanfic It got bad after a while.
It started off okay, to getting progressively interesting and then when Izuku actually made the gauntlet the story had pretty much peeked in quality, then writing took a huge nose dive.
Probably the biggest issue with this fic for when Izuku pretty much bullies his way into a government position is how it constantly makes Izuku’s opponent stupid or straw men’s, the story being pretty much a slave to Izuku. Even when he does something completely illegal and unjustified the fic will go out of it way to make the narrative make it just as so. Example when readers rightfully had started calling out Izuku for being overly harsh on MT Lady and snake hero (Uwabami or something I forget her name). So then in order for the author to justify the story decides to make up that he gave them an opportunity to get there quirks back by basically donating all the income they earned as heroes to whatever. big fat IF he doesn’t decide to be a dick and not give back to them. Ignoring the fact that Izuku practically publicly humiliated them without a second thought. Suddenly the story paints them as unreasonable for not going along with and for them founding a “smear campaign” (doesn’t even make sense as in cannon MT Lady isn’t actually that well of and the reason she showboats is to gain recognition and generate more income as she has to pay for the damages it causes so if anything it would be just snake girl). So I guess that makes them suddenly the bad guys and Izuku gain more public support. No if anything Izuku should be in deeper shit for essentially extortion, but whatever. I guess that is morally okay in this shallow universe...
Also in the fake live interview in question where Izuku apparently bans all hero merch and that fixes hero society..... Okay......
No it FUCKING does not, in fact there would literally be riots in the street over that with simply the fact that a lot of income runs on hero merchandise. Multiple companies would suffer small time stores, avid collectors, children would be upset, tiger moms and so many people would be out a job. But I guess Izuku feels persecuted so they don’t exist at all. The narrative has such honest to god tunnel vision.
The author keeps saying that Izuku is the villain and such but the story itself sure doesn’t think so, the only way I actually see it happening is if Izuku does something seriously over the top like blow up UA or joking with overhaul about torturing Erie. I wouldn’t mind if at least one character just viewed Izuku as a petty little shit that can’t handle the fact that someone who didn’t know him said he couldn’t be a hero.
It’s a same because I started out seriously liking this story a lot but eventually it’s imploded in on itself. Maybe it will be better later but this current arc really killed it.
