Anime Disappointing to say the least
This movie was dead on arrival. There was no way for them to adapt one of the most famous arcs just like that because by the time it started we had already bonded with the characters, we came to know them, and yeah, you can make the argument that applies to the Gold Saints, but they still got good enough development for us to care for them. Camus is always the best example, his and Hyoga's death are among the saddest moments in the story because it was given time to breath.
This is not going to be disliked by hardcore fans only. This movie failed in it's main premise which was to introduce new fans to the franchise. But by the time it's over, you have no idea who these characters are or why you should care for them. It's too fast paced and rushed. The fight scenes, which were supposed to be the bullet points of the movie don't even last 5 minutes and are so anti-climatic you end up with a bad taste in the mouth.
¿The soundtrack? The only memorable track, is only memorable because it seemed it was played 10 times over the entire movie. You might as well think there's no music in several scenes.
I wanted to like this movie. I really do. But the end result was so disappointing. And it's a shame because it had very good things to it. The Lat Am dub is superb for one, really well done. The actors don't seem to have aged since when the series was transmitted all those years ago. The Cloth designs and the animation are ashtonishingly beautiful, mainly the sequence from the very beginning when they're chasing Aioros and the first time Seiya dons his Cloth. But it's just that, an empty shell with some good visuals. Not enough to save the movie.
Anime Gonna need an Athena Exclamation for this film.
As a fan of Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac, I was not pleased as I was watching through this movie. It felt like a really shallow adaptation of the ever famous Sanctuary arc.
One of the things that bothered me was the need to Power Ranger-ize the cloths. What was wrong with how the cloths were designed? No need to add in a stupid helmet and face mask. Though, I can get behind how the cloths could be summoned by necklaces, because really, do you really need to lug around a box like that everywhere you go?
Another thing that bothered me was that we never got any time to know about the characters and the background. Yeah, we know about Saori, but what about her knights that are bound to protect her? We know next to nothing about Seiya, Shun, Hyoga, Shiryu, and Ikki at all, other than stuff the characters tell us, rather than showing us. We never got to develop any of the characters because we knew nothing about them, same goes for the Gold Saints.
Some of the changes in the story irked me since the original Sanctuary arc was very regarded as an arc that dealt with a lot of personal battles and how the characters grew from their battles and had their resolves tested, and yet, we didn't get any of that whatsoever, heck, some of the temples were even skipped or characters were killed before we even get to see them (i.e. Aphrodite Pisces).
If you liked it, that's fine. As for me, it was another failed and shallow adaptation of a series I grew to love while I was in middle school.
