I remember watching the first season back in the day and loving it. When the second season aired, I had "digivolved" from Digimon.
I had never seen this film, until this day.
I didn't like it.
It would appeal more to those who had seen the film back in 2000 and had grown up with it.
But to those newcomers who are going to watch this film for the first time in this decade, you'll probably not like it.
Unless you've began watching the show from scratch.
The reason why this film got made was because the Pokemon had come out and Fox wanted Digimon to have the big screen treatment.
There was just one problem though.
There is no Digimon movie.
So what to do? What to do? What to do?
"Hey, there's some Digimon short films, we don't we we cram those together and make it into a movie. Pulp Fiction and Heavy Metal were anthology movies, we don't we do it with the Digimon short films?"
To be honest we you, it's not a bad idea.
But another problem is that the short films have no connection with each. Well, with a bit of editing and new dialogue, Fox tried to make the Digimon movie work.
I suppose when the Japanese heard that there was a Digimon in America, they must've got confused.
It's like combining all the Wallace and Gromit shorts into one big feature film.
Fox didn't care about newcomers to Digimon going to see this film for the first time, though.
Imagine if you're a 60 year old film critic. You have no knowledge of Digimon what so ever and you have to go see this film and review it because it's your job.
Would you enjoy the movie if you were that person?
Didn't think so.
Yeah the editing is sloppy, clumsy, messy and rushed. The dialogue for the English dub is horrible. The show suffered from this as well. The bad dialogue and jokes make you cringe so much, that they make George Lucas' dialogue sound like Tarantino's.
I found all the action scenes very dull, I didn't care about the characters, due to this film not explaining who they are. I was familiar with the characters from the first season though, but the ones from the second season, not so much.
However, the animation is very good and the second segment has it's moments.
It wouldn't hurt to make a live action Digimon movie now.
They're making a new Power Rangers, why not Digimon?
Anime Tries to make a feature film by combining 3 short films and it doesn't work.
