Here's an interesting addition, but I need others' opinions. Does this notion REALLY constitute an "Ass Pull"?

  • Ass Pull: Within the wider context of the franchise, Vault-Tec existing in any form post-War wasn't hinted at before the series. True, Vault-Tec specialized in constructing fallout shelters, but every scrap of information about it depicted it as a corrupt and incompetent Mega-Corp, so their survival wasn't a given, and since their goal is taking over the world and destroying any faction in their way, them not intervening before the 2280s and letting the New California Republic expand as far as it did shows that they weren't considered to be an important post-War player before the TV series.

I removed this because this sounds like nothing more than flame bait. I have no problem with it being returned if the consensus is that it isn't, but imo this really isn't adding anything but the potential for conflict.

  • To a lesser extent, a loud minority of "culture war youtubers" (content creators known for exaggerated and inflammatory takes criticizing "forced diversity" in media) were quick to lambast the show leading up to the premiere due to its female and black protagonists, claiming it would bomb as bad as The Marvels (2023) or the aforementioned Halo TV series, and that it will be universally loathed by everyone, especially fans. When the show dropped and became highly praised by fans and regular viewers alike, most of this group quickly sung the series' praises, moved on to different media to criticize, or (in more extreme cases) either used the vocal backlash against the handling of the NCR and (supposedly) Vegas or simply let their personal biases justify them giving the show a negative review. That being said... a portion of that small minority didn't even watch the show, and just confirmed their biases with a couple clips (namely, Titus running away from a bear being seen as an insult to the Brotherhood and Lucy and Max's "sex talk") without the context that explain what is happening in these scenes. aspects).

I think it SHOULD be included, because many of these YouTubers were insisting & hoping the show would be awful, only to eat their words once the show released to glowing reviews.

Rule of Cautious Editing Judgement is a thing for a reason, and IIRC culture war stuff in general is at least toeing the line if not violating it.

For the sake of avoiding Flame Bait, I think it would be best to keep this removed. Even if it's true, it's still a contentious subject and could bring in more extreme edits.

I don't think it's Flame Bait, and I don't think it's inaccurate, but I'm somewhat against its inclusion as it's just kinda... inevitable?

Like, the same culture war crowd does the same thing with every release. If there's even a hint of diversity, they decry it as woke garbage until it comes out, where if it's successful they pivot to saying it's not actually woke and if it's not they say they were right and the reason it's not successful was because of the wokeness. It happens with literally every major release nowadays.

May I ask why the Fanon entry was removed? While I understand it doesn't fall under Common Knowledge, the entry absolutely fits under Fanon (New Vegas being in ruins is a massive stretch from a single, darkly-lit shot, and the Vault-Tec consipiracy isn't fully revealed yet). There was no explanation so I assume the person who removed it just disagreed with the entries. Fanon is when something that hasn't been confirmed in-story is treated as canon, and the examples added to the entry are this.
