My recollection (been a while since I saw the episode) is to the effect that the show took some effort to avert the StrawMisogynist that would be expected- he\'s a complex character; also, it would be easy (and most works would do this) to have Katara win, but she doesn\'t (she\'s morally right but he has the advantage of being a warrior with years of experience).

My recollection (been a while since I saw the episode) is to the effect that the show took some effort to avert the StrawMisogynist that would be expected- he\\\'s a complex character; also, it would be easy (and most works would do this) to have Katara win, but she doesn\\\'t (she\\\'s morally right but he has the advantage of being a warrior with years of experience). There\\\'s also the aspect that he doesn\\\'t change his mind because he\\\'s convinced by Katara\\\'s argument (nor as mentioned because she beats him (which would disprove his \\\"women are weaker\\\" argument), since she doesn\\\'t win the fight)- it is because of an independent personal connection.
