To reiterate one of CaellachTigerEye\'s points, Vathara has done a lot of research and put together logical arguments on the subject of how a character of a given age, from a given society, from a given social position within that society, and with a given set of childhood experiences could be expected to act and react in certain ways under a given set of circumstances. However, this is not the same as showing that these particular characters with the history and character development seen in the show up to this point would act this way. People are shapted by their origins and experiences, but are still free to make choices and are more defined by those choices than anything else. In Book One and Book Two, we see Aang and Katara making a lot of choices, and so their characters are defined.
