I think the main problem with the Twin Peaks comparison is just that - it\'s only a comparison. It defines Evangelion solely on the basis on \'\'something else\'\' instead of based on its own traits, elements or themes, and that something else is something that people have a coin-flipping chance of being familiar with in the first place. Basically, I think half the quotes on the quote page would be infinitely preferable to it (especially the second Sarte quote, which really hits on the main theme of the series).
