My own experience is that this generally is a bad sign when used explicitly--when the person feels it necessary to say \\\"Don\\\'t like, don\\\'t read\\\" it always leaves me suspecting something has been left out of the warning. I\\\'ve unfortunately never been disappointed.

The problem isn\\\'t that this trope exists--the basic sense behind it is sound--but, while Semiapies may be right that \\\"it\\\'s not like people get handled untitled books with blank covers to read\\\" the phrase in use tends to overlap painfully well with CoversAlwaysLie and deceptive titling practices. (Consider, for example, \\\'\\\'Cloud Mows the Lawn\\\'\\\'.)
