In the story of the game a lot is made of the fact that the Council is not making any effort to protect or investigate the disappearances of human settlements in th Terminus systems. Various insults are thrown about, accusations of speciesm and the like, and there\\\'s plenty of \\\"Humanity saved you from Sovereign and \\\'\\\'this\\\'\\\' is how you repay us?\\\" (Depending, of course, on the outcome of ME 1)

However, a point I noticed is that the Council \\\'\\\'can\\\'t\\\'\\\' intervene in this matter, and explicitly says so, because the Terminus Systems are a different country/alliance/what-have-you. The Council has no authority, no fleet bases, no treaties, etc. with the Terminus Systems. In fact, the sole thing that keeps the Terminus as a unified whole (If it can be called unified at all) is its refusal to accede to the Council\\\'s authority in any way. To intervene would be an act of war.

This is stated explicitly in the game, but nobody on your side (Your own character, Cerberus, etc.) ever seems to realize this. Asking the Council to get involved would be like asking the U.S. to send in the FBI to investigate a kidnapping in the USSR. The USSR would refuse, rather vehemently, and if the issue was pushed might lead to all-out war.

I\\\'m wondering what trope to put this under, but I can\\\'t think of it. My first thought was StrawmanHasAPoint (The obstructionist, elitist, ungrateful Council refuse to assist you, but it turns out they are fully justified despite their being on the \\\"wrong\\\" side), but we no longer list {{Strawman}} related tropes on a works main page. What trope should be used to cover this?
