I wonder if Neil and Mr. Keating from \\\"Dead Poets Society\\\" cannot be considered as male examples of this trope for Todd, even if there are not explicitly romantic love between them (despite it can be questioned concerning Neil)? Indeed, both Neil and Mr. Keating seem to have genuine affection for Todd, which can be compared to brotherly love (for Neil) and paternal love (for Mr. Keating), and they both allow Todd to challenge his shyness and lack of self confidence to develop his talents for poetry and literature. And these two characters both encounter a downer ending, just like the MPDG/B/M archetype...
