Unlocking characters in \\\'\\\'Smash\\\'\\\' is just a minor part of it. Again, this comparison is a massive stretch.
Whether the difficulty was patched or not is not relevant; it still happened. We still trope things that are changed patched out of an initial work. If anything, the fact that it was patched so fast demonstrates how unwanted it was.
