There seems to be a misunderstanding from tv tropes on just what an aborted arc is they seem to think it's a story that didn't unravel the way they wanted or wasn't addressed the way they would prefer and they also seem very biased making justifications for franchises they clearly liked so the example doesn't apply while painting others to sound worse even outright ignoring actual plot details to better support their perspective.

The JL example is built around an entirely false perception. BVS did not imply Lex was working with Steppenwolf his discussion with Batman implies he uncovered information and knew they were coming his dialogue implying that the motherboxes called them back, hence him going ding ding ding repeatedly it's the boxes calling Steppenwolf because they sensed Superman's death coming both before and after it happened.
The dust rising JL did explain his cells were dormant but incapable of decay so because of that they still had a magnetic pull, it actually foreshadows how they bring him back with an electro magnetic boost. It's not what fans expected but it still addresses it. The nightmare isn't just a big tease for Darkseid and an evil Superman, it is very important to the character psychology of Bruce and Clark and that it is Bruce who turns Superman evil while Clark is always what causes Batman's fear and guilt to corrupt him.
People are trying to skip to the end, trying to make JL the final end in 2 movies when it just never was. The Legion was always planned, Darkseid, the motherboxes, flash time traveling, just what the nightmare means, the forth world elements and how Earth plays into them. There is way more going on here than Darkseid invades with an evil Superman, even a 2 part JL wouldn't be enough. JL wasn't the endgame people need to stop trying to force it to be an endgame it never was.
