I think acting and lying are going to use different mental processes for most people. Not the least of which is because getting caught lying has real world consequences, and acting is something where both parties are aware of the fiction.
Note that you can be a bad actor and still roleplay.
Ruining everything forever.Only in the sense that I haven't told my parents about it, thereby making me better at hiding it.
When I saw the thread title, I assumed someone had done a study on this. Someone should.

That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulI would think so. I wouldn't say, Lying though, more like bluffing. I still get nervous at explicit lies. Though the bluffing has gotten easier.
Unfortunately its also made me realize how much other people try and take advantage of each other. And how bloody stupid some people can be. And how some people would probably rob you blind if they thought they could get away with it. And how sometimes these people are your friends.
But I'm just cynical from playing in WAY to many "Hey! lets be different and have an EVIL campaign!" Groups.
Protip: Backstabbing the party is not cool.

CAPS LOCK IS RAGE!!!Protip amendment: except in Paranoia.
It's just a weird thought that occured to me while I was working on the campaign I'm running.
Role play, like acting, is basically a sustained process of lying. You're looking your friends in the eye and telling them crap that you know is not true (you see a dragon; you find a magic sword; etc.) but you're totally comfortable because everyone has consented to this. You're not fidgeting, you're not nervous, you're totally straight as you spout this line of fiction.
I'm wondering, does this practice make you a better liar in your day to day life? Either way, you're just playing a role. Only instead of the role of "Sir Venrick Stark, Paladin of Bahamut", you're trying to convince the cops you're "Matt Myers, who doesn't have any weed in his coat pocket." Will of your role-playing experience carry over?
