Yeah, I wouldn't have picked cleric if it meant servitude to a lazy god.

I would probably end up breaking the game by multi-classing as a Sorcerer, Wizard (summoner), and Cleric (philosophical Craft Domain Creation Domain) while trying to go for a prestige class of Mystic Theurge. Then siting around making cool stuff. I'd still go on adventures mind, but in the back of my head there will be a little voice saying wouldn't this be better if it somehow exploded?
Okay, I have a slightly more narrow question for you folks to chew on. You're level one, and want to survive to see level two. What class are you?
Add me on Skype: Al Cook (darnpenguin)Paladin most likely.
Whatever has a nice big fat hit die.
Which is why I kinda like Scout more than Rogue, because i get d8 rather than d6.

Survivability? Warblade, then. All sorts of cool tricks you can use pretty much at will, d12 hit die, great access to armor and weapons, and though you have to jump through a few hoops, you can get all good saves.
(Crusader's not bad in the ultra-survivability from level 1 department, either, but I just like Warblades more.)
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuWhat's warblade like?
And what hoops are those?
The fighter/barbarian like class from "Tome of Battle", which really is one of my favorite 3.5 books just for giving melee some love. Like the other two classes, its main feature (among a lot of other nice secondary features) is that it gets access to maneuvers, sort of like spells for melee fighters.
The hoops in question: it gives your intelligence bonus to your reflex, but only one for every level in Warblade. For Willpower, you have to have good Concentration skill (not too hard to do, since, to start with it's keyed off Con, and also the class gets 4+int skill points) and have a certain maneuver readied, which lets you use a Concentration check in place of a Will save.
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuAgain, Barbarian. Not only do I have a d12 hit die, I am perfectly willing to SMASH as many monsters as I can to get to level 2.
I still pick Sorcerer, as long as the meatshields I'm traveling with aren't self-serving dumbasses.

Yes, that is me attempting some charop.
Live forever or die trying.Surviving first level? I'm gonna have to go Wizard and keep Expeditious Retreat and Shield prepared...
I would have to say that the v3.5 cleric's ability to spontaneously cast healing spells makes them the most likely to survive. This is especially true if you happen to be in a group, because even a half-orc barbarian with an intelligence score of 4 is usually smart enough to know that keeping the healer alive is a good idea.
Logged: The commanding officer is aboard. XO Pressley stands relieved. If I had to choose a class to live as? Wilder. I would spend my time fueling my psychic powers with HOT BLOOD, and when I got bored of that, as my ADHD ass would, I'd pop a few levels into Bard to be able to fuel EVERYONE ELSE with Hot Blood.
I would be on the Gurren-hen of dungeon exploration teams.
I'm not familiar with cleric abilities; what about it gives it the ability to spontaneously cast healing spells?
Or do you mean conversion of was it domain or non-domain spell slots, as opposed to unlimited healing?
(Also, what sorts of clerics would not have healing spells?)
@Mapi: What if they are self-serving dumbasses, or just dumbasses?

The second one Glenn.
Clerics can convert non-domain-bonus spells directly into equivalent level healing spells, thereby never being "forced" to prepare them.
i.e.: Prep up on damage and utility spells in morning prayers and when the fecal matter hits the rotary cooling device, trade one of your Flamestrikes in for a heal instead. Makes them much more versatile then their mageling brethren.

I think you guys missed the point of the original question sometime along the way.
I'm saying what if you, in Real Life, had the option of being a Class from D&D, not playing one in game, but being one IRL.
Which is why I went with Sorcerer. In an actual game, I always play a Bard.
But regular D&D classes don't have any place in Real Life. So how you wanted the question to be interpreted makes no sense, really.
Thats GMH, not Korg.
