You All Look Familiar is about NPCs in video games looking the same because the designers only made a few sprites for them. Nurse Jenny is characters in a non-game world looking exactly the same for no conceivable reason. They're not the same thing at all.

I know that, but it's still splitting hairs just to tell them that much apart. Why have a trope for video games and for non-video games? You could have just opted to have a general trope for any character who looks alike without being twins or anything like that, but this site went the extra mile to create Nurse Jenny anyway.

Just saying.

What? They still don't seem similar at all to me, but it doesn't matter. I already made my point in my last post.

Any way we can hook the alternative names crowner? The single prop doesn't look to be changing significantly any time soon.

Inexplicably Identical Individuals is doing fairly well, and is also the only one with a positive count. How much longer should we wait?

It's the weekend, and a significant portion of the users do not access the wiki on weekends. When I posted yesterday, it still had a dramatic lead, so I guess I'll call a retroactive three-day clock starting from the time of my post. Barring a significant change in the standings, the crowner will be considered called at 10:30pm on Monday, forum time.

Why isn't Shopkeeper Clones an option?

^ Because not everyone is a shop keeper. In this particular case, the trope namers are nurses and police officers.

No reason not to add it anyway (which I just did).

Only in Pokemon do we have nurses and police officers as the predominant sets of clones. Far more often you'll find cloned shopkeepers in video games. In fact, this goes back to the original Legend of Zelda and beyond.

I don't like names like "Cloned Characters". That sounds like any clones of any character.

^ That's not this trope. That's You All Look Familiar and it doesn't just apply to shopkeepers there either.

What Shimaspawn said. We're talking about characters in a non-video games environment looking alike for no clearly specified reason.

The problem is that the definition includes "same job". I don't really see what you are aiming for with this trope. Is "people look the same for no reason" a trope? How is it any different than say, Identical Stranger? Shouldn't we sort this by reasons for why they would look the same?

I kinda hate the current rename. It says nothing but the above "people look the same for no reason". But we already have that covered. We also have tropes for various reasons why this may happen. If we have not defined a new reason for this one, then either we don't understand the trope, or the trope has mutated into something that we already have.

Identical Stranger is more a case of when it's a main character and used as the basis of a plot. The trope currently known as Nurse Jenny is for bit parts who turn out to be identical people in different parts of the world, usually for a joke (like the Dibblers in Discworld).

^Things like that (like identical person showing up as a joke) would would make this closer to a trope, but so far no such thing has been added to our official description, and with a rename suffestion that contains no suggestion and Kris already treaing it as the "no reason" trope - which would be Identical Strager, instead - I'm wondering if we are just not asking for trope decay via a bad rename.

There should definitely be an agreed upon short definition first. Or we'll just end up eventually merging it to one of the already existing "identical person" tropes.

If you want to suggest a name, add it to the alt-crowner as well. It's not that hard.

Either way, the crowner's being called in about six hours  *

, so it's probably not going to change significantly any more.

Yes, TV Tropes time. It will officially be called in just under two hours assuming there isn't a huge shift in the votes.

Inexplicably Identical Individuals won by a landslide. I'll do the renaming later today, if no one takes care of it.

I still think it's hard to type, but then again, I'm not going to be the one renaming it all. I'm gonna make sure Nurse Jenny stays as Nurse Jenny on the Pokemon character pages though.

...Why? The trope was renamed for a reason. It sounds like you're stating your intention to start an edit war if anyone puts what is now the correct name of the trope.

Anyway, the renaming is done. The thread can be locked now.
