I like "Inexplicably Identical Individuals"
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.^ Alliteration Always Adds Addition Appeal Around Arbitrary Allocations And Awesome Anecdotes.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Inexplicably Identical Individuals
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAnother for Inexplicably Identical Individuals.
The current name is bad. Even within the huge Pokemon franchise you may not be aware of the name, as the trading cards, games etc don't draw much attention to it (can't speak for the manga, the anime obviously does)
Would you kill your best friend, can you save yourself?I like Character Clones — gets to the heart of the matter.
Character Clones sounds like when you have a cloned back up of your character. It's a horrible name.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSince no else appears to have done it and it's easier to pin down consensus this way, here you go:
Single Proposition crowner for renaming
Madrugada, you can hook whichever one you feel is more important, I suppose?

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Single prop Crowner hooked. If anyone has a reason to not rename it, add it. The only one I could find in the thread boiled down to "It's from Pokemon.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Inexplicably Identical Individuals = HARD TO TYPE.
Unexplainably Identical Individuals is slightly better, but it's still... ehhh..
Hard to type? Disagree.
Would you kill your best friend, can you save yourself? Some joke on "local character" maybe?
Is it a big part of the trope that a copy of the same character also fills the same job? I'd say that it is.

Count me in for Character Clones. The use of the word character should put it into Doylist perspective so it won't be confused with actual clone tropes.
Inexplicably Identical Individuals is sort of a mouthful, and I just had to change tabs to remember what it was after just reading it.
Support stupid freshness, yo.Character Clones sounds like it has something similar to Shoto Clone to me.
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here.We should come up with a good Laconic, too.
To consider:
This covers cases when there is a copy of the character in every town, but does it also those where a group (eg. a police force) in the same town is made up of identical people? (a' la Mooks)
And if "same job" is or is not a requirement, how does this relate to Why Do You Keep Changing Jobs?

i like Character Clones, it just worries me that people will start thinking they have to be clones. and the "inexplicable" is sort of the funny part of the trope, TBH.
^ for this trope, characters may ask the person Why Do You Keep Changing Jobs?, but in reality the person doesn't change jobs at all— it's just not the same person.
Character Clones sounds like a Super-Trope for Expies (like Char Clone).
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Yeah, I'm for not renaming the trope under the reasoning "Who cares if no one knows what it is right away? It is not widely used anyway."
Or to put it another way, this trope is just You All Look Familiar. The Same But More Specific.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture Rack^ Ridiculous on the grounds that it might be more widely used if we had a better name for it.
Would you kill your best friend, can you save yourself?Addy The Pawn Slayer, I wasn't talking about tropers using it. I meant works that use it.
Most of the examples on Nurse Jenny could be moved to You All Look Familiar. Nurse Jenny is a parody of that trope anyway and the You All Look Familiar Page has a section for parodies
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackReasons not to rename: It's from Pokemon
I lol'd.
Motioning Penguin's suggestion.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.^^ I think that this trope is when there's a specific group of character's that explicitly fall under You All Look Familiar, but the rest of the NP Cs or background characters don't fall under it.
Amazing how many hairs you have to split to differentiate certain tropes from others that are almost sorta kinda like it.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
just want to say, i have watched the first couple of seasons of the pokemon tv series, the first three or so movies, even played a couple of the games (pokemon snap FTW! only game i've fully finished on my own in my life). heck, i was really active in the pokemon fandom when i was younger, i even wrote fanfiction and stuff.
still, when i saw this thread, my initial thought was "oh, we have a trope for sweet, helpful nurses?" 'cause that's what comes to mind when i think of nurse joy. it was only when i read the thread that i realized the trope name was nurse jenny, meant as a portmanteau of both characters and it totally wasn't about joy's sweetness or helpfulness.
-facepalm-
so yeah, i agree with the rename. Inexplicably Identical Individuals?
