Crowners for the YKTTW.

In my personal opinion, the number one reason a YKTTW gets sent to Trope Repair Shop is because it was launched with a really bad name. This is usually because somebody wanted to launch the trope quickly, or nobody could decide on a good name so it got launched with whatever was at hand (good or otherwise).

Now, newly launched tropes aren't exactly eligible for the "if it ain't broke, don't rename it" argument because of their young age. But there's still a point to be made about getting the article off on the best name first.

So what about ... something like crowners for YKTTW? A YKTTW thread thus consists not only of a draft and comments, but somebody can attach a YKTTW crowner so Tropers can brainstorm and vote/discuss potential titles for the new trope while it's still in the YKTTW.

(Of course, YKTTW crowners would have to be hooked by the discussion's permanent ID, not its current working title)

This would save the Trope Repair Shop a share of needless rename work ... and a few Tropers their pet peeves.

And make them easy to use please. Not everyone has the level of dedication to do more than click a simple button. This also prevents crowner links from getting buried in a pile of edits.

I agree, great idea. Maybe lock the YKTTW to be launched while there is a crowner going? Also only allow mods to attach crowners at their discretion?

So goes like this->

• editor requests crowner via button

> crowner was already requested for that YKTTW, so the button gives a prompt explaining this (eliminates crowner request queue clutter) > crowner request was requested before, but declined; button gives a prompt explaining this and gives the mod's explanation why the crowner wasn't granted before; "only re-request a crowner in case the previous issue was fixed" > crowner request is the first or a re-request; editor fills in why the YKTTW needs a crowner (would probably usually be something like "naming dispute")

• mod enables crowner, YKTTW locked from launch
• crowner stabilises, user hollers
• mod concludes crowner
• YKTTW launch re-enabled
