For those of you who don't know what vandread is, i'd suggest reading the tv tropes article on that subject, but if you're too lazy to do that, then here's the gist of it:

In the future (the actual date being rather vague) two planets are at war. You have Mejale, a planet filled with only women, and you also have Tarak, a planet filled with men. Yeah, battle of the sexes.

Unfortunate protagonist Hibiki Tokai, while attempting to pilot one of Tarak's Giant Mechas, ends up flung far out into space, alongside some female pirates, and a couple other male prisoners.

Oh, yeah, and they also have to face this nasty robot army that harvests people for organs and whatnot to keep their immortal Earth masters alive.

Sound like a space opera yet?

I think you might have better luck if you post this in the sign ups thread, that's usually how you guage interest and get members. Aside from that, I'll file this one under "sounds fun, but I'm unsure if I'll be able to join due to lack of knowledge on the subject and time constraints."

And if you want to know more about the subject matter, to to wikipedia and look it up. or look it up on This Wiki.

Just so you know, the Vandread is a Romantic Comedy/ Mecha/ Adventure anime.

While the story is nice, i was thinking of detracting a bit by adding in some original characters. might change the original mood of the story, but then again, maybe that's a good thing.

It might be best (for me at least) is we didn't directly involve the story of this rp with the main story more than necessary, since I haven't seen the anime.

so, are you suggesting we attempt a side story to the canon one?

Well, it's you choice if you're going to be the GM, but in my personal experience people seem to prefer playing their own OCs over canon characters.

True in this case.

I would keep the setting and how things work somewhat alike the anime but maybe reemplacing members of the crew of the Nirvana with our own characters... or something like that.

I loved the chracters of Vandread but I don't really want to play as them... I worry that I might be playing them out of character and such.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

alright, let me see.

So, do we start off this whole thing as replacing some of the canon characters?

that doesn't sound too bad, but should we make it so that the OCs are from the respective planets within the show or maybe make up a few places and throw them into the mix?

I think it would be better to have the OC's being from Tarak and Mejale. An important part of the conflict of Vandread is how males and females don't know much about each other.

I propose we start at the beginning of the series, with the Tarak battleship being attacked by the woman pirates. Probably the male characters we get would be the reemplacement for the three males that the pirates take prisoner.

come to think of it, the exact number of prisoners being taken doesn't even have to be three.

I was thinking of that but now that I see, I never mentioned it.

Indeed we can have as many male prisoners as people Sing up.

I got ideas for a male character and a dread pilot.

sounds nice.

I have one hacker/pilot in mind, as well as a prefabricated character from another planet.

well, there is a Shadow Organization in the original work. It would not be too difficult to link that organization to a bigger fish on the Sorting Algorithm of Evil. Maybe like a special weapons/projects division.

The only Shadow Organization that I remember was the council that governed Tarak, and the resistance force that sent Misty.

To stick close to canon, I would recommend playing as an agent for either of the planets (perhaps like the opposite of B.C.)

Or like Samuel Adams. Former Earth captain, turn rogue?

also, i'm not too sure about dragons and arcane things, seeing as this is a scifi thing and not fantasy.

if you want some sort of supernatural talent, try psionic abilities. I would suggest limited telekinesis.

Also, when dealing with weaknesses, I think it would be appropriate to list emotional/psychological problems as well as physical limitations. Noticeable and important character flaws usually make for more interesting stories.

In the supernatural abilities venue, the characters who were exposed to the pexis gained (aside from their renovated mecha) a sort of shared subliminal telepathy. It would not be much of a stretch to imagine that something more overt would be possible with a direct infusion. A living experiment as it were.

If anything, though, the dragon will never appear. Its just a specific point where it cannot go near the planets.

The DRA could be a kind of mercenary force that showed up and started offering their tech and power to both sides, all while plotting against the both of them.

you might want to just remove the dragons altogether, or just retool then into secondary characters who are human that follow along with the main player character.

also, you seem quite insistent on creating this new shadow group, alongside the preexisting Earth Harvester affair.

Shall we just leave it as a merc group, period? no ulterior motives? We already have a pretty big enemy to face (and they aren't too subtle about getting what they want) and a few other societal problems to overcome throughout the journey.

alright, the dragon will just not appear at all.

and I cannot see why the DRA could not be connected to this bigger enemy. I think doing that would allow for both of us to be happy/

The antagonists tend to be the realm of the GM, they need to coordinate all the hidden agendas and such.

Players are supposed to play as the heroes most of the time.

This does not apply all the time of course but it tends to be easier for the GM if he can manage the enemies.

Oh by the way I'm introducing my characters soon.

It seems like this thing suddenly exploded right under my nose. And here I was concerned that it wouldn't take off. I'll have to do some research before I create a character, but you can expect my entry a few days from now at the latest.
