He might have also been a bit of a Blood Knight even before hand, since he did kinda fuck around while fighting Zero at first.

[up][up][up]The characterization of his Halloween alt in DiVE supports that, since it was supposedly based on his pre-infection days.

I was going to make a "Kitsune Man" robot master, but...IDK, I guess I got bugged about the fact that we have more male robot masters than females, the only one we got was Splash Woman, right?

[up] I'm more bugged about doctor light only making his male chidren capable of fighting and making his robot daughter nothing but a maid, very progressive doc.

[up][up]Well, Rock was originally the same way. It wasn't until the rise of Wily that he chose to become a fighting robot.

[up] That was the explanation they gave in the comics but I don't see why he couldn't modify both the same way, if anything it would be better to send 2 super fighting robots instead of just one, especially since there were several robot masters which light totally knew how dangerous could be since he built them himself.

It's always been the case in the games, since at least Mega Man 4. Powered Up also kinda went with the idea that Rock was the only one who volunteered to be modified.

[up] that still doesn't sound good, it's basically like implying that only the boy was brave and willing to step up to help and the girl despite having exactly as much potential wasn't willing to even try to help out herself, sorry but however you try to justify it, it's just not a good luck.

Roll was planned to be playable as early as Megaman 2. But that game was largely developed between projects on the devs free time, so that fell through. No excuse for after that point. Frankly, Rock, Roll, Blues and Bass should be playable in every game at this point.

That actually gets me to thinking.

The Variable Weapons System that Rock uses to copy Robot Master Powers was based off an earlier ability he had to make any tool he needed. I've been wondering if Roll has it (the original Tool making version) as well?

There's not much to justify not sending in Roll as well with modifications (if you don't want to endanger her, why is it more ok to endanger Rock, even if he volunteered; and she's a girl doesn't really fly either), and the thing is, the original game was originally going to have Roll as a second player, but they didn't have the tech to implement it. Of course, they then doubled down on that choice, as they had plenty of opportunities to use her but chose not to.

Edit: [nja]'ed on Roll's playability, and I didn't know it was for the second game. I could have sworn it was meant for the first game.

[up][up] honestly yes, they could all have the same general gameplay so it's not like it would be that hard to program.

Roll was playable in an obscure cellphone release of the first game, where she had a super powered charge shot but it'd only work 5 times per stage.

They should all run on the same base kit with slight variations. Roll only has melee. Blues has extra charge and shield, but takes extra damage. Bass has rapid fire and double jump, but no slide.

you know it's funny how feminist complain about sexism in videogames when it doesn't even exist or is not as bad as they pretend it's but here with classic roll we have a character with sexist implications which their franchise has done little to nothing to fix and yet hardly any of them complains, princess peach is infamous for being nothing but a damsel in distress but at this point she has had many apparences in which she's a heroine in her own right while classic Roll has remain as nothing but either a maid or a damsel in distress practically always, only being made playable as a joke and yet somehow there's zero controversy around her existing as a sexist 50s stereotype no matter how much society progresses.

Mega Man, in the year 2024, is fairly niche. Most people don't know the story. Even fewer know the "lore." Those that do likely accept it as a matter of tradition.

Id take it as less "the general public accept the poorly aged parts of Mega Man" and more as "the general public don't care about Mega Man."

[up] that just goes to show that many of the people criticising the progressiveness or lack thereof of videogames hardly do any research, and just go for superficial appereances over whatever are the most mainstream videogames at the time, becouse you wouldn't even have to do that much reserach to learn about megaman even if he's not as popular now as he was before, he's still an important part of videogame history, anyone that's been into the medium for a decent time should at least know the basics of his franchise.

There’s a fan game called Rock and Roll that distinguishes the two by giving Mega Man the charge shot and giving Roll a double jump

I'm biased because Powered Up was my first playable Roll. It just made me imagine a scenario where she played like classic era Zero. So mostly replacing the broom with something like a sword or a baton.

I'd love playable Ruby-Spears Roll. Her Utility Arm attachments would be substitutes for the weapon system, and she had a lot of them.
