New Maidman one-shot coming in June. He has a guest artist drawing it. Sparkly.

I love that Belt's response to "does my butt look big?" is "that's a trick question!".

I don't think there's such a thing as too much GODDAMN MAIDMAN in anyone's life, so I will be pre-ordering a copy...

I'd love to see the digital copies come out simultaneous with paper. I don't want paper, but I would probably pay for digital.

Just read the new Maidman one-shot. It's good! Though Emily Warren's (no relation) art is a little flat when it's not in full shojou-sparkle mode.

Best line: "They're a cowardly, superstitious and sexually insecure lot."

Have just discovered Warren's Twitter (mildly spoily). Looks like the deadline for Vol. 7 is looming...

Could someone less spoiler-sensitive tell me when Vol. 7's out?

EDIT: Never mind, it's May 3rd.

I have before me Volume 7 of Empowered, which was just released today in comic shops. If you like Ninjette and want to read about her backstory, this is your book. Emp and Thugboy get a look in,but it's mostly her show.

SPOILER-FILLED REVIEW: Adam Warren has achieved almost Joss Whedon levels of bastardry, both towards the reader and characters; I was fearing for Ninjette's life all through this. Interestingly, for the first time he uses (by name, even) a technique I first saw in Buffy's "The Body" - a character's inner fantasy is presented to us as reality, before snapping back to the 'actual' reality. There it was heartbreaking and a twist of the knife; here it's a violent and disturbing look at the character's inner worlds, showing just how messed-up Ninjette is. He also does the comic-book equivalent of Never Trust a Trailer by carefully selecting panels from the whole volume and presenting them at the start, further throwing us off balance. At the end of it,you're not sure if certain parts did or didn't happen.

In among the plot-hopping Anachronic Order, moral ambiguity and death, there's still time for Emp/Ninjette bonding,a truly amazing 'cannot unsee' moment, Emp's growing sexual confidence, the chance for some true respect for Emp and what the Caged Demonlord's true nature actually means. Phew!

In short, this is the most densely-plotted, well-written book in the series yet. Go buy it.[awesome]

Wow, that was good. And really disturbing. And poor Ninjette. And seeing Fucking Oyuki-chan with facial expressions was inexplicably TERRIFYING.

...can it be Volume 8 time now...?

Edit: I amend my terrifying statement. Ninjette's father is TERRIFYING. I don't know what it was, maybe it was how he just loomed in the foreground of most of his panels, but he has just stuck with me over the day. Brrrr.

Is weird I want to see more of the Ayakami?. The talk in the bathtub was both incredibly depressing and reminds why this series is so awesome. Thugboy's little speech on thermite grenades makes me hope desperately that Vol 8 focuses on him.

Each crowing page also needs an update and maybe a tearjerker page.

You know, I'd be pissy about the fact that we waited so long to be given hardly any plot advancement (aside from the usual assortment of San Antonio and Willy Pete teasers) except that this volume is full of so many great character moments its insane. Yeah, the focus is on Ninjette this time, but there are lots and lots of fleshing out for all the cast. Probably my favorite character to get development in this book is the caged demonwolf. There was just something touching and chilling about the way he drops his usual over the top schitck to talk so plainly and openly with Ninjette.

I just read Vol. 7. I really liked it although all the jumping around in time was a wee bit confusing. so anyone else think that Wily Pete is the amalgamation of the Dead Heroes the Witless Minions killed with their fire bombs?

Late to the party:

1) I thought the bathtub scene was awesome, full stop. It might be my favorite scene of the whole series. I might well become a Ninjette/Uncaged Demonwolf shipper, for the slashname if nothing else.

2) My bet on Wily Pete is that the capes had him built somehow to fight the capekillers, and then he got out of control. He's pretty well optimized to fight opponents who use incendiaries. I guess the question is why Major Havok didn't recognize him earlier.

As a person who doesn't have volume 7 or 8 and the two extra specials after maidman, love this series. Considers this the best Feminist comic after The Maxx(the animated version should have a special spot on a female based station like Oxygen or Lifetime).

Even though I follow his DA account, when is volume 8 coming out?

The last volume I read was Volume 6 I think.

I like the series, but the extended dialogue with the Caged Demonwolf was really grating on my nerves. He's funny in doses, but apparently, Warren made a poll on his deviantArt asking if fans wanted to see more Demonwolf. Naturally, there was an outstanding "Yes" response; I seem to remember at least an entire CHAPTER being narrated by Demonwolf.

Hopefully there will be less Demonwolf when I pick up Volume 7.

Volume 7 definitely tones down the Demonwolf. I had just started getting tired of him, as well, and found that 7 was a welcome change of pace for the character.

[up][up]Vol 7 is more of a Ninjette book but it does have an important demonwolf part. that is pretty great.

Good to hear; I've just started Vol 7.

Another question: Was there a reason for why Emp's costume is constantly full of holes now? I remember Warren started drawing it like that around Volumes 4 or 5. I can see it just being for fan service, but was there another reason?
