Saw it and loved it. Except for Wikus doing all that [1] stuff like eating cat food, chopping off a finger, losing his nails...I loved the scenes between Christopher and his son, and Christopher was my favorite character.

It's better than Avatar, in my opinion.

Little to much Gorn for my taste, then again I loved Battle Royale. Anyway I thought this was a very well done movie, BUT I do not want a sequel(leave it alone and let WMG begin) and the documentary camera perspective got old FAST.

You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.

This movie was amazing. Good acting, pacing, special effects, characters. Way better than Avatar.

I also wouldn't want a sequel.

For the shaky cam: I liked how there was a subtle transition from this documentary to a normal movie style. Doing the whole film like the first 20 min or so would really be too much. But the way they did it here was quite decent and for me it worked.

I actually want a sequel

I'm in favor of a sequel only if they change it up a LOT. Like, say there were human researchers on the ship when it left, and they end up on the prawns' world in their own district. Similar structure and themes, but a totally alien environment.

First I would note that a sequel has the possibility of tainting the memories of the first installment if it works too directly as a continuation of the characters stories i.e. if the next film is about Christopher fulfilling his promise to Wikus and coming back in 2 years time.

After that, I'm practically the inverse to Dracomicron- keep the same environment but use it to explore some different themes. Take the principle of Applicablity in the first film and extend it to using the set-up for a tangential theme. Note, it uses the themes in the first film to create a context and memories of the first film and a overarching layer in which the franchise in viewed as a whole.

Saw it twice.

First time was when it first came out and I went with some friends. We joked around about the exploding humans and gravity/pig gun. The overall reaction was meh.

The second time I saw it I was floored. The movie wasn't that deep (the whole apartheid thing, yeah, yeah)for me, but what made it great was the Character Development for Wikus. Good action flick with some thought provoking elements. And alien Jesus.

Sequels do not "taint the memories" of the first movie. There is no such thing as a sequel that, upon creation, attains a consciousness and edits stuff out of the original film. The world of District 9 is fascinating, and the more it's explored by these talented people, the happier I'll be. If the sequel sucks, oh well, I still have the first and no force on heaven or earth is going to take it away from me.

People say that, they say that repeatedly in the face of several people feeling like their emotional reponses to their old memories are different, and it's a line that works just as long as you ignore a lot of points about film making.

People form a sense of a cosmos for a work, a sense of identity for the characters and naturally use all events prior and following to form a mental image. Discontinuity is the aberrence. We rely on that when we use have character pet or kick the dog in different scenes and we keep a Riddle for the Ages and pull a Cosmic Retcon.

Is it weird that I found the alien child to be totally adorable?
