I actually heard somewhere that the reason GW is taking so long to make a new DE codex is because they want to completely rebuild them from scratch.

That's pretty much exactly what they need. They might be silly, but I think the setting's better for having a sleek, elegant, utterly evil army of glassier than Glass Cannons.

Problem is, Glass Cannon doesn't work very well in this game where everyone is armed to the teeth. They need something that can take a hit.

That's clearly what the slaves are for.

I still say kill off the Imperium, ALL of it! The better space marines can just become chaos marines.

Either kill the Imperium or kill the Eldar. They use the same armory, and vehicles despite being two empires that are supposed to be alien to each other. The only difference is the Eldar are "more advanced", even though there is no reason for the Imperium not to simply adapt all of the Eldar's tech, because its all the same. Melty Bombs, chainswords, lasguns, the only Eldar exclusives I can remember are wraithbone, which I can't remember what it does, Wraiths, which are like Dreadnoughts but better, Shiruken guns, which sound pretentious and the floss gun, which begs the question of why a bullet wouldn't be better. The Tau do the small package thing better.

The Dark Eldar at least had dark matter weapons right? And they used their psychics as batteries for walking guns, so they at least have the potential to be unique. The Chaos even have the crappy technology thing justified by not really needing to update their lightning claws, bolters and rhinos, when they've got daemon powers.

In fact, if it were just Space Marines and Eldar alone, I'd keep them both. But there is also the Imperial guard, which share their armory with Eldar and Space Marines, and the Sisters Of Battle/Witch Hunters/Daemon Hunters which use variations on Imperial Guard and Space Marine weaponry.

As said, the Chaos have their excuse, and Noise Marines, Plague Marines and Korne Berserkers. Dark Eldar have some potential. Orks have junk that shouldn't work. Tau weapons are built around exploding tiny particles and advanced missile systems, Necron weapons take apart matter and screw with the laws of physics, Tyrindis are organic, but the Imperium and Eldar are the same so one needs to be absorbed by their evil counterpart, or the Eldar need a make over.

Plenty of reason not to adapt eldar tech, It's heretical and devoid of the machine spirit of the Omnissiah.

Duh.

Uh, since when the hell do the Eldar use the same vehicles as the Imperium? Unless the Guard got hover-tanks when I wasn't looking.

Most races are pretty awesome when well-written, even the Ultramarine Ultramarines from Ultramar, but if i had a choice i'd take Ogryn. They are friggin' stupid and i can't fathom how the Imperium puts up with them.

Get rid of fluff space marines they are Sod breaking Mary sues. We are led to belive , that in setting with numerous heavy weapons they are the best warriors ,when they basic tactic is charge ?

Uh, since when the hell do the Eldar use the same vehicles as the Imperium? Unless the Guard got hover-tanks when I wasn't looking.

The vehicles are a little obvious than the weapons because yeah, they float. The tanks float, so they move slightly faster, but still aren't shooting anything too different from what humanity shoots. Unless the fluff and codex have changed since I stopped playing.

Though I take back the part about the humans in 40K improving their technology even when the obviously improved technology is already there. Even anarchy Afghanistan would have got the message after 2000 years but I keep forgetting that the Imperium doesn't act like any real world nation would.

But I still think it'd be nice if Eldar weapons amounted to more than just "Imperium's but better". They managed to make the Tyranids, Necrons and Tau seem so different, they can't be out of ideas to kill people already can they? Okay, maybe I was too hard on the Shuriken guns but I honestly hated that weapon. The racist emperor of man kind made sure no Asians were in 40k so could they at least name it something else? And shouldn't anything that's only a molecule thick be fragile and break rather than cause damage?

You know semiauto bolters firing self propelled explosive rounds? Those kind of make sense. When the Space Marines are charging forward firing constantly from bolters with helmets that likely see ultraviolet light combined with the explosions making sealth and cover useless, that would make sense that they were a feared force. Well it would if they actually wore their helmets but the Shuriken being worse than a bullet doesn't sell me, anything lost in weight would be negated since its near nonexistent. The net gun is pretty cool actually but even table top play shows how unpractical it is against someone in body armor. I'd give them more unique weapons to fill more combat niches and cut back on everything they shared with Mankind. If not just let one group get absorbed by their more evil half.

I'm somewhat confused. Eldar play nothing like Space Marines do.

Like I said, if it was just Space Marines and Eldar, I wouldn't mind, but there are also Sorority Sisters, Witch Hunters, Imperial Guards, Chaos Space Marines, ect. And though many play a different niche, Eldar could be an Imperium off shoot since they use chain junk, flamer junk, melta junk, las junk, frag junk, crack junk, ect, only somehow better than mankind's.

Yeah, they do have a few unique weapons, but not enough to me. Eldar just don't seem that alien compared to the Imperium the way the other xenos do. Maybe I'm missing something.

Wow, the game changed a lot when you weren't paying attention, dude. Eldar are Glass Cannon types with Crippling Overspecialization, not at all like The Mario Space Marines. So all of those points are invalid.

Still, the bit about Sorority Sisters is a good point. I could see them killing them off, though a Gendercide of this magnitude would... say awkward things about this otherwise male-dominated universe.

I remember hearing some theories that, as the Eldar grew proud and hedonistic, their weapons turned away from practicality and became more ceremonial and exotic.

"Hey dude, check out my new gun! It shoots SHURIKENS!"

"HOLY CRAP THAT IS THE BEST GUN EVER I WANT ONE SERIOUSLY"

Soon ever Eldar soldier is toting them since they had such a tech advantage over everyone else that they were untouchable and free to dick around.

SUDDENLY SLAANESH

Now they're fighting for survival, but are too proud and arrogant to discard them for something more practical. That, and they refuse to believe that some filthy mon'keigh in power-armour could negate the awesomeness of their over-showy guns.

Your theory, T Bot, actually sounds very reasonable; it also fits in with the Stupidity Before Reason of the setting.

I wouldn't remove anything, but I would collapse the Inquisition into one codex, with one book containing the Witch Hunters/Sisters of Battle, Daemon Hunters/Grey Knights and Xeno Hunters/Deathwatch

The original challenge was killing off an army for drama purposes. That would be cool, though.

...wait, how about a cataclysm that causes two or more armies to fold together, removing a power from the galactic map without making anyone's models useless?

How about the orks converting to the Imperial Kult en-masse, combining Orcs and Speesh Mehreeens? :p

You know, for drama I WOULD kill off the space-marines. Leaving the Guard as the sole remaining defenders of Mankind...

Not killing off a race per se, but I was just contemplating combining the Sisters of Battle and Space Marines into a single fighting force. Raise the Sisters of Battle to the role of "Religious Special Forces", while bringing the Marines down a notch. Make the Marines less huge, and less stupidly strong. They can still be super-modified warriors, just make them unable to lay waste to entire planets on their lonesome.

It would give the So B more love, AND stop the Marines from being a sausage-fest.

EDIT: Oh wait, that's pretty much the Inquisition in a nutshell. Never mind. sad
