I might see it when it's on DVD as Emma Stone (think that's her name) is pretty hot. But not hot enough to justify spending theater ticket money.
Who would want to watch a movie with the girl that got headbutted by Jonah Hill in Superbad?
Also, the last Hollywood attempt at The Scarlet Letter was awful (the Demi Moore one).

Personally I think this will be reasonably amusing but not a super-fantastic comedy.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Emma Stone's not bad. I do like her deep as all hell voice. Though it's jarringly mannish at times.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Did she really ever do anything in Zombieland? Other than con a Michael Cera lookalike and think Anaconda was rated R.

I'd say this is one of the best teen movies i've seen in a while. I like that the main character is smart and witty without being completely unlikable.
Also love the Lampshade Hanging that came with shoehorning John Hughes in there for good measure XD

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I heard about this at first from an extra who's on Something Awful. (apparently he played 'Nerd #2' or something, fittingly)
It sounds like it'd be another stupid teen comedy but the good reviews are surprising. Is it the kinda thing us nerds would enjoy?
I'm surprised by how well written it is. The shoutouts were rather obvious, but it's thankfully much less idiosyncratic and obnoxious than Mean Girls (though I actually somewhat liked that movie)
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.It looks rather generic and gimmicky to me. At the same time, the trailer amused me enough that I might want to see it.
New User HandleIt was pretty damn great. The first 5-10 minutes or so I was a little worried, but when it got going I was totally on board. Hilarious, good music, wonderful performances from the whole cast. Definitely check this one out.
Someone told me that the 'A' was supposed to be a The Scarlet Letter reference. Does that make any sense?
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!^^ Well, it is in the trailer:

The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith.Because modern adaptation.
New User HandleBasically one of Marianne's friends, Nina mentions it while in class. She clearly is referencing it wrong but Olive decides to go with it anyway. It all comes full circle by the end of the movie though.
The movie's Mean Girls comparison is forced by the public and while it could be seen as a Spiritual Successor there's not a lot of common ground between the two, down to friends & personalities.

Just got back from this. It was fantastic. Definitely worth seeing in the theatre.
The dialogue is smart and witty, the casting is perfect, and the acting is great. And all the John Hughes references... There's a very fine line between homage and appropriating it for your own use, and the filmmakers pulled it perfectly into "homage" territory.
Whenever someone gets an article up for this, the Shout-Out entry is gonna need its own page.
Oh, and upthread, the person worrying about how awful the Demi Moore version was? They address that. Multiple times. It's funny.
I'm not usually one for "teen comedies", but this one I'll get behind.
^Just for reference, there is already a page for it: Easy A.
Well, I feel smart for not seeing that. Thanks for the link to the article! :)
Why do I get a feeling that after this movie, a lot of high school girls are gonna get the idea to pretend to sleep around?
But then they'll get suspected of lying about it. And between that and the girls who actually sleep around it's probably gonna end up creating a bizarre web of lies even more tangled than your average high school.
Y'know, I gotta do a review for my drama course, maybe I'll do this movie.

I don't think that will be the case. I think we will experience what happened similar to A Cinderella Story and Juno, where there is a large amount of fanfiction written with that premise in mind.
New User HandleBeing probably outside the demographic for this (single 21-year-old male), i really enjoyed this movie, and I probably wouldn't have enjoyed this as much had it not been for the cast. I love this cast. Emma Stone is a star and she carried this movie, and the girl can act. Thomas Haden Church is just a guy I really like. Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson are very funny in their roles, and I believe that if you recast this movie, it would not be as good.
Yes We Did. Dallas Mavericks — 2011 NBA ChampionsWell, there was an external effect from Juno... remember that group of girls that made pregnency pacts?

This movie actually looks really good to me. And even if the script or plot is bad, it looks like the performance of the cast will make up for it. I'm a little worried about getting my hopes up, because I don't want them to be crushed when I read reviews.
