Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form
to send a message to "The Staff".

Hello, I have a bit of a problem with my password. I just had it reset as I lost my information, saves, etc. I managed to reset it,the problem is I am trying to change it to be easier to remember, but when I click to confirm the change, the password I was given by the email (which worked getting me back in my account) is registered as inaccurate for some reason. And I know for a fact I typed it in exactly as I did to get in my account, and it still isn't working. Thank you in advance.

Hello! I'm the originator of the former "Talen Lee" account, which I made while I was using a different ISP-based email address. I made this account to hopefully reclaim that one, then get rid of this one?
You are on a different IP from Talen Lee. Need to use the same device, at a minimum.

Welp guess it's lost to the ages. That was at least three I Ps and multiple homes ago, and the computer no longer exists.

I used to be With Flowers, but I lost my password. This should be the same connection as my edits in the September-mid-December area, although it may be different from some of them since I don’t know whether my school uses the same IP address for all its wifi networks and I don’t remember which one I was on for some of them. Most everything before last September and between this mid-December and mid-January should be from northern California. Almost all my edits since December 2013 are from this device, which I can give specs on if that would be helpful.

~Bird In Rain: Unfortunately, the fact that you use a college network means it's impossible to verify your claim, since the sorts of IP addresses those networks use are dynamic and often widely shared. It's not the device that matters; it's the IP address.

Okay. In that case, is there any way I can prove my identity before I get home for break (and am therefore using a home IP address)? Will I be able to prove my identity once I get home for break, or should I give up on the account?

No, because we cannot associate the two accounts on your say-so alone. I'm sorry, but it's far too easy to impersonate someone when we collect no personally identifiable information from you.
If you have an email address associated with your account, you may recover it that way. Otherwise you'll have to log in using one of the non-public IP addresses used by the old account.

This should be the old, non-public IP address I was using before September of last year.

I just found out I can't change my password because it is five characters long. Turns out the current entry password does not allow five character submissions before inputting the new password. I guess regulations must have changed while I kept it.
I've lost my password for Dark Soldier and I'm having difficulty retrieving it. I tried using the retrieval tool, but it keeps spitting out errors that it can't recognize my e-mail address. It should be the same one I used to register this account.

Greetings. This is not a password problem, per say, but I am unsure where else to post about this. During the recent update, my profile information was deleted, sig, title, everything. My E-mail was also altered slightly, a letter that is supposed to be in the E-mail is now missing. I attempted to change it, but was told "This E-mail is already in use".
I only have one account, and my E-mail should only be in use on that account. So far as I know, the password is ok, as I managed to log into my account after the update with no problem, but I'm not sure if the info was edited after I got back in during all that security failure nonsense with random people getting access to random accounts.
Please advise. I'll PM whichever mod decides to assist me with more exact information, outside of this public forum

Well, that account is suspended and has ban evaded using proxies. Might want to have a word with him about Internet safety.
I'm going to reset Xevon. You need to re-register using that handle. Preferably quickly, as it's up for grabs as soon as I do that.
