Sticky plz.
Alas, this is not a game.
Following the events of [REDACTED], we should probably get some rules in this place. Not hard-and-fast, you-will-obey, on-pain-of-death rules, of course; more a sort of guideline for how to keep things fun and entertaining for all involved. Obviously, FG is all about fun, but these rules are intended to make sure it stays that way.
- Try to stay vaguely on topic. You can be flexible; sometimes the rules need changing, and OPs, there's no point in trying to make Tropers play a game they don't want to. But if the game is "let's pretend to be kittens", don't derail into "let's pretend to be robot samurai". Remember, anyone can make a thread here, so if you don't see a game that interests you, make your own thread for that. You don't need to ruin other people's games.
- On that note, please don't turn every thread into a free-for-all fight. There is a thread for that. More generally, you don't need to derail every thread into a roleplaying game. As it happens, we have an entire subforum for if you want to roleplay.
- If you are supposed to be roleplaying, please refrain from godmodding. It's not funny, it's not fair, and it disrupts the game. That means no playing unbeatable characters. Be especially careful when killing other people's characters. Give them a fair chance; rather than writing "*shoots That Troper's head off*", consider "*fires gun at That Troper's face*". The line between Godmodding and regular fighting can be somewhat nebulous, so please exercise your common sense and personal judgement.
- Be wary of conversational derails. They're a fact of life on these forums, but try not to go overboard, or you may find there isn't a game left.
- Take your drama someplace else. FG isn't the place for that shit. We're here to have fun, not start a Flame War.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game: Remember that forum games are a collaborative project, not a competition. Please do not write your posts with the intention of trying to one up other people by making it hard for them to build upon your post in a constructive way.
- No sex or fetish games. Let's keep this vaguely family friendly.
- Please bump responsibly. Due to the amount of games played every day, it's normal for a thread to be knocked off of the first page within hours. With that in mind, regulars will wait several days or a few weeks before bumping. Please use the same amount of courtesy. Threads that are time-sensitive (such as YIAY) do allow a bit of leeway regarding this rule, in case the user presenting the prompt needs to be pinged or if there are not enough responses after time has passed.
- Above all, have fun! This being Forum Games, that's what we all want, right? These rules are not intended to oppress anyone, but rather as a gentle reminder of how to avoid that dreaded Internet Backdraft. That way, we can all enjoy ourselves. ^_^
EDIT:
- The avatar minimum and the keep sockpuppeting to a minimum rule have been removed from the rule list.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game rule has been added to the rules list
- Added "no sex or fetish games" rule.
- Added a rule regarding thread bumping.

I think I'm missing something regarding all this. Then again, it might in part have to do with the Zone: RPG forum I always skip over.
Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.Wait, what? John had another account, with which he started another RPG? I'm confused now...
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!Lemurian: This John Doe guy and Nick The Swing are the same person.

Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuSo he is going to start killing us in ways based on the Seven Deadly Sins?

pretty much, and you are already dead.
EDIT: mellon, I did what you said, and read some Nietzsche, it filled me with a new purpose. From now on, no more defeatism, no more sockpuppeting in the wrong threads, and I will stop whining.

Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuI second Haven's proposal.

"Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair."Bump. Should there be some kind of rules about roleplaying? Because this isn't technically the place for such activities, and yet...

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffSo, what, casual rp games aren't allowed? Because I thought the rp subforum was for more offical, organized rps, as opposed to the casual go with the flow ones in here. I say don't make a new rule.
"You fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science. Common sense would be cheating." - NarbonicI don't see what's wrong with casual RPs here. I can even vaguely recall occasions where RPs in YF were moved here by moderators.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffAn RP is an RP whether it's a formal organized one or a quick casual. They all go in Role Playing in the Zone:Forum RPG forum.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.So, on snowcloned games.
Several of them have been deleted (like ITT: Our avatars are pregnant and ITT: Do touch it), and they had a point. Are snowclones not kosher here either?
No, snowclones are OK here, hence why we still have all the "pick the x avatar" games and the "x association games" and the "ITT: we x" games.
I'm not sure why those threads were deleted, but they must have been deemed undesirable for whatever reason, perhaps due to post content?

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffUmm, I want to make a Furry RPG-thing were you can choose your animal and gender/appearance/ect. and battle. Can I do that by making a new thread for it?
YOU! OBEY THE FIST!It'd be a good idea to post that in the RPG sub-forum. I have a question too. Does godmodding get somebody banned?
edited 11th Dec '10 1:35:44 PM by LandOfGold
^ Godmodding can get you banned, unless you're in a game that is specifically "wide-open, no rules". The question to ask is "Will godmodding in this game step on the other players' enjoyment?" If you think the answer would be "yes", don't do it.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Godmodding isn't cool to begin with.
So how do these RPG's work? Do you just write what's going on?
YOU! OBEY THE FIST!Use a real RPG system?
What are your crimes, signature reader?Blurry lines indeed, think of things like Enter The Arena As Your Avatar or TV Tropes Roll To Dodge, the former of which Arty has considered many times of moving to the RP section and the latter actually using an RP system.
Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.
John Doe, weren't you leaving...?
