Now, in my m/m stories, I do frequently have more effeminate guys but they aren't necessarily always bottoms or submissive; that's no hard or fast rule. Seme/uke fixed roles bug. Same in my f/f stories; people don't necessarily have the pre-ordained sexual role preferences that the stereotype will place them. Besides, butch/femme works out fairly frequently to "loves to please"/"loves to be pleased"; the dominant shoe isn't necessarily on the butch foot.
But, y'know, people. Personalities. The way they bounce off each other, encourage certain things, slip into certain things, fit together in interesting ways ... isn't that the fun?

I'm not really a huge fan of yuri but I can enjoy it. I don't really have a preference for it over het or... well, I've never really seen any romance between two boys but I can't imagine I'd have anything particularly against it (although yaoi is a different story - I've never liked the whole Seme/Uke idea).
My favorite yuri pairing is probably any girl from Azumanga Daioh / any other girl from Azumanga Daioh, with Tomo/Yomi at the top of that list.
