Want to ask for ideas on how robots could end or replace society as currently known. I do have some ideas in mind, but I make the thread to see if other opinions are possible.

I do have a focus on mixing it with assimilation plots and zombies, but I will take more general answers here.

[up] Upload all human minds into one giant man-made Eldritch Abomination, analyze the data, and then create robots to run society according to those minds in order to keep it functioning.

If there are people who have yet to be "downloaded", capture them alive and download them. Alive. Killing the humans is NOT an option.

Maybe?

I already have something like that in mind, but it was more benign (marginally) as it was a response to a different machine apocalypse and the reason why I made the thread. Might elaborate on the tentative idea later.

Alternative: Give the humans the tech to access Internet with their minds, wait until the majority have the implants, and then hack it so the humans turns into meat-robots who follow the protocols set by the computer in accordance to survival and cut down the destructive tendencies in mankind to a minimum.

Those who didn't get them... bad luck for them.

That is also interesting.

To be clear, I'm still looking for something more akin to the Faro Plague in terms of incidents for which the assimilation plot is a response to

I'm not familiar with that, could you explain a little?

[up] the Faro Plague iirc is the result of Ted Faro's short sighted drive fir profit, in the form of nanites that feed on biofuel and lacked a backdoor for someone to prevent enemy nations from subverting them (at his own insistence no less). This meant that when they inevitably became rouge they were nigh unstoppable harbingers of the apocalypse and forced a crack team of scientists (including his rival) to create a plan that will ensure the survival of humanity and the biosphere in the abstract.

I'm basically looking for lateral moves to the same outcome or close to it, with the assimilation plot being a similar last ditch effort but geared towards preservation of human consciousness instead.

I also had a related idea that would serve as a half-true public pretense in that the intention would be to use human brains as training data to further generative AI development. Itself controversial in universe, but much less so than the actual state of affairs.

It also would involve a Roko's Basilisk scenario but more as Self-Fulfilling Prophecy.

I find your description a little confusing. First, there's a machine apocalypse, and then someone or something attempts to assimilate human beings into... something, as a response to that? Why would being assimilated, which is akin to losing your individuality, be better than whatever was happening before that?
