I'm wondering if this film is supposed to be a stealth sequel to the book (like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland)? That would be a neat way of making an adult Harold work.
Also, they kept this project underwraps for the longest time too....

Wow...I didn't expect Harold to be an adult in this movie. Unless as someone else has pointed out, this is supposed to be a Stealth Sequel to the Harold and the Purple Crayon books by having Harold be an adult and still continue to draw things with his purple crayon.

Harold being an adult sure sounds like a recipe for disaster but I hope it isn't bad as soon as the trailer is here.

Looking at this cynically... they probably aged him up because they want a franchise and you can't really build a franchise off of child actors (excluding the occasional exception where installments are either pumped out really quickly and promptly fizzle out, or the series acknowledges the characters growing). They age out of it too quick. Shazam got hit with a bit of this.

Apparently there's an unrelated upcoming musical adaptation
coming this year; that one's explicitly exploring an adult Harold adjust to life years after using the Purple Crayon.
Isn't Harold supposed to be extremely young like six? The cutoff for child-lead films is usually about 12 so some Age Lift was likely going to happen anyway. My guess is Levi will be the adult version of the character with flashbacks to his childhood using the crayon. May even be a "Recapture your childhood" film like Christopher Robin.

Well, this took me by surprise, especially as someone who grew up on the original book. Consider my attention held, though.
The way the first poster shows crayon art in the background (before shifting into reality) makes me wonder if we might get some 2D animated (or at least Painted CGI) elements in the movie. Could be just for show, but I guess you never know.
